The thing is, I actually think he's giving Hopkins some credit in some roundabout way

I genuinely couldn't figure out this thread the first two times I read it, because I am so used to see him being a fanboy freak for Calzaghe, and my head couldn't find the angle he was approaching this from.

But I think he's trying to give Hops credit for beating Tito.

Why is it Tito Trinidad was completely blown up so a meaningless win, yet other guys like Hopkins aren't blown up but good-great wins?

OK Tito fought at welter weight predominantly earlier in his career, but not towards the end, he too was at MW like Hopkins. Gaining weight, and fighting at higher weight classes over time is natural and quite common. So why is it it's so exaggerated and taken out of context with Tito but not so much others?

Hopkins fought Winky at 160, came back 6 months later at 175 to face Tarver. Surely fighting so suddenly at a different weight class and so old leaves him as open to this being undermined as just blown up? Tito also came from 160, and had more time to naturally be around such a weight. Look at Toney, he fought at MW and worked his way up to HW. Few say he's a blown up MW, and he did great things. I won't even mention Roy Jones.

OK Tito was out of the ring for 2 and a half years and that's also a factor, but then plenty have done that ok too and it's not used to undermine someone so much. Take Vitali Klitschko. No one was completely undermining him for a couple of years out of the ring, yet they do also on this aspect for Tito.

He didn't perform to badly against Roy Jones all considered, he was another great fighter whom put on a good performance all considered. He's not the blown up, old, ring rusty and nothing win many seem to make out for some reason, especially considering there's other guys and scenario's out there receiving those criticisms to much less of a degree.

Thoughts?

because hopkins was always a huge middleweight and could've been campaigning at 175 a long long time ago. he chose not to because he was waiting for the golden goose and setting his # of defenses for a HOF career.
