He would've basically been forced by public demand to face the winner of Cotto/Margarito, and i dont think he wanted that.
imho floyd only went up to 147 to fight oscar. the only reason why the hatton fight came off is because floyd always wanted to fight hatton at 140 but hatton ducked him or wasn't ready for floyd at 140.

i don't think floyd is coming back.

With his hand problems, being secure financially, having kids, and reaching 30, with other options in life, being in control of one's own destiny, maybe he thought it was the perfect time to start New. If he continued on with boxing, that would leave him stuck like the rest who never let it go.
and that is all that needz to be said. The guy wore glovez at the age of 3, he participated in boxing for 28 yearz...he has accomplish enough. Yeah, people can forget how tired he is of the sport.

Yes, that's the other side to it as well. At 147, the fights he wanted were Shane and Osacr...he got Oscar.

He started at lightweight and people want him to fight natural welters who some are really dieted down middles like Margarito and Williams.

Cotto should have been on his list though, although now it doesn't really matter; the credit of victory will not be the same.

If you are going to judge his legacy, do what I do, break it up based on the division he fought.

Funny how nobody had a problem with him fighting Baldomir at WW when Baldo came in weighing 160+, yet the minute the fans are calling for him to fight guys like Margarito and Cotto, his fanboys use the fact that he started at lightweight as an excuse. Pacman started at 106. Should that mean he should not have been fighting legit champions at 126 & 130?

No it doesn't mean Pacman shouldn't have been fighting champs at 126 & 130 but IMO I wouldn't critize Pacman for boxing the ears off of those people for 12 rounds if he had the skills like PBF. I don't PBF style is boring if you really have seen PBF for his whole career people would understand he changed his style to win fights at a higher weight class.

Truth be told Pacman was actually a boy at 106 and still shouldn't have been fighting at that weight based on what happened to him being weight drained.

How old and how starved was Pac at 106?
Pac lost a fight back in the day because he was killing himself to make weight.

People had a problem with him fighting Baldomir...his fans may not have.

A fighter realizes as he moves up past his best weight that it becomes more dangerous and less likely to win so they pick and choose when the move; that's the reality of it.
Floyd saw opportunity in fighting and beating Baldomir for the Championship because one, it helps with legacy, and two, it helps to promote future fights. The originally plan was to fight Zab, who held the titles, but he lost to Baldomir. The end goal was always to get Shane and Oscar in the ring.

It's also why I've said at 147 Floyd doesn't have much of a resume and shouldn't be consider the best at 147 simply because he beat Baldomir who was the legit Champion.

Moving up is hard to do, which is why we don't see the majority of fighters do it unless they have no choice...and the reason why Big Margarito continues to fight at 147. Williams fights at 147 as well, but credit to him for now moving up in weight and bouncing around.
