Mayweather Sr. "Ricky, Please Stop With The Booze"

Ricky Hatton's new trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr, has told him to give up the booze. Mayweather Sr. was hired by Hatton to prepare him for the November 22 fight with Paulie Malignaggi. Hatton has a legendary reputation, on both sides of the ocean, for his ability to drink himself silly. Between fights, Hatton parties often, eats plenty of junk food and his weight jumps to middleweight levels. Hatton puts on so much weight between fights that UK fans nicknamed him "Ricky Fatton." He gets forced to work extra hard during training camp to get his weight down. [details]

that shows his commitment to the sport! hate to bring up the retired but he was the best not solely due to his talent but his work ethic and commitment. I don't see a 30 yr old rich man changing especially stating his intentions to retire.

If Hatton had been more professional with his lifestyle he should be in his prime now at 29/30, but he already looks like he's in decline.

Well it is good advise but it is Ricky who chooses what he wants to do reguardless.

It's too late for that now. I dont expect to see Hatton in the ring for many more fights. Dude is probably loaded, and has already been fighting once every 6-7 months anyway.

He'll probably smash Malignaggi, get knocked out by either Pacquiao or Oscar, and then fight a retirement fight in Manchester.

floyd is right, fighters shouldnt drink

if hatton looked after himself more he would be peaking now, instead hes on a noticeable slide

Sr. is dead on. Hatton balloning is just hurting him. Boxing is a sport where thte most dedicated and best last the longest. Say he gains a rythem in the gym then after fight night he goes back to boozing, then hits the gym again only to realize he lost his rythem. Sr. know you'll lose a step or two if you ain't dedicated.
