A lot of the time I think that changing trainers can be a bad thing, regardless of the quality. For example Manny Steward is probably a better trainer than Brendan Ingle, but which did a better job with Naseem Hamed? Sometimes a fighter is just suited to a certain trainer, and that's even more true when they've worked together since the amateur ranks.
Another thing is that the best trainers have a lot of commitments. For example Freddie Roach couldn't be in the corner for Alex Arthur when he fought Gomez (Arthur ended up losing). I've heard that Manny Steward doesn't spend as much time with his boxers in 2008 as he did back in the 70s and 80s.
Sometimes you're better off with someone who knows you inside out and can give you all of their time.
I certainly feel that if an established boxer does go to a new trainer, they should only make minor modifications to his fighting style, rather than looking to completely transform him. Perhaps the Hatton-Mayweather Sr partnership will prove me wrong though.
I do believe that Katsidis should change trainers though, because his current ones are completely blind.
