Video of the Bute/Andrade Controversy

Any normal referee would've stopped this fight at the 10 second mark after Bute stubbled across the ring..

Bute was on the floor with 2 seconds left on the clock..

Bute got up at 9, staggering..

The ref was yelling at Andrade to go to his corner.. Which gave Bute an additional 8 seconds.. Then the ref goes to Bute and says 8 9 10..

Then the bell rings?

What took the bell so long to ring? Just curious..

Man, that really IS some bull****. That ref's gunna get criticized for a while because of that, there's no doubt Andrade had dude out on his feet even at the beginning of the video.

The fight was entertaining. It is what it is.... What an ending!To loose like that... What class he had after the fight. There is no doubt they should fight again. I'm sure they will. It will get the ratings and they should fight in the states this time. Goes to show you, it's not over till' it's over!

By my count Bute was up at 9 but was still VERY shaky. Definitely controversial though the way the ref abandoned the count for a few seconds and then started where he left off.

There has to be a rematch, it would be unjust otherwise.

he was out during the count and still out for quite awhile at least another 10 secs after the fight had finally ended. after the bell bute was flopping back to his corner.

I posted the IBF rules in another thread. It's really hard to tell when the ref starts counting, but from the time he went down the mandatory 8 count would carry him past the 3 minute mark. All he had to do was get to his feet and stay up, which he did. He was up on his feet before the ref warned Andrade to go back to his corner.

Here's the rules (http://www.ibf-usba-boxing.com/userf...%20Rules.pdf):
"4. When a contestant has been knocked down, the referee will order the standing contestant to the farthest neutral corner and begin the count. If the contestant standing leaves the corner before the count has been completed, the referee shall discontinue the count and order the standing contestant back into the corner. The count will not resume until the
standing contestant has returned to the neutral corner."

"6. The bell will not save a boxer in any round of the bout. If a boxer is "downed" just before the 3-minute bell in any round, the referee's count shall continue and the bell will not ring until the boxer rises and his hands clear the floor."


The bell rang late because it doesn't ring until the count is over.

If he'd ended the fight with Bute on his feet, he would have gotten criticized just as badly. Bute was way ahead on the cards and was defending a title.

This could have been a huge comeback, but I think it was actually handled correctly, as disappointing as it is to see someone win when they're obviously in dire straights at the end.

I actually thought bute beat the count and got up. At first I thought andrade could have had more time to come in and ko him but that was not the case. Question is should the ref should have stopped the fight since bute looked like a rag doll out there and when he got up from the ko he looked like he was completely gone. I believe there are some refs who would have stopped the fight at the 5 second mark before the knock down because bute looked so lethargic and beat or would have just waved it off when he was getting up due to the beating he took.
