I train 6 days per week and box in the amatuers at heavy weight and Superheavy.
I am 6ft 5 and walk around about 15stone/94kgs.
I would last about 30 seconds with Cotto.
I have sparred with pro boxers at middleweight and they can **** like **** despite them being 4 stone lighter than me.
Anyone who aint aboxer who thinks they could last into a second round is deluding themselves, Her would hammer your body with shots that would break your ribs, if you dropped your hands he would knock you out.
And staying out of his way isnt an option either cause he would cut the ring off quickly and there would be no where to go.
ANother thing, I bet 98% of posters could do 12 rounds with Floyd Mayweather or someone similar without him throwing a punchg and they would land a glove on him.
But i dont mean keep away like u think i mean ****IN RUN! As in literlly run! Grab, foul the works remember how much money is at stake here!Comment

You would be very surprised at how many people come through the gyms of this world from time to time actually thinking they can last with a pro boxer... it is insane... they see a pro working with a guy and they think they can do the same...you can spar with a one bout novice amateur and let him hang with your for five rounds as long as you don't try to hurt him....people think that means that if the pro was actually going all out then they could last too...because they are big, strong, muscled up, been in jail, know karate, have tattoos etc etc...but it is not realistic..if you have never fought before and sparred Miguel and he wanted you out of there quickly...you would be out of there quickly. It's not an insult to your manhood or your pride , it is just a realistic look at things. I had 49 pro fights, 70 amateur fights, have sparred thousands of rounds, have sparred more than 400 rounds just this year alone...but I know for SURE that I couldn't hit any of Randy Johnson's pitches, I wouldn't last more than twenty seconds on the ground with Chuck Lydell if he didn't want me to, and I couldn't beat Carl Lewis in the 100. And YOU cannot last three rounds with Miguel Cotto. It would be not only ridiculous but it would be an insult to him to even suggest a non boxer could hang with him.
Thanks ice for this well thought out post, I just wanted to know how people think they would do in there with a trained boxer and am glad a lot of them are actually been truthful about their chances.Comment

Well...are you a pro boxer? If you are an amateur and Cotto decided to I would say he would stop ANY amateur in less than two...and if you are a pro you would have to , I assume, be better than all the guys he has already stopped in 1 or 2 rounds thus far in his career, right?Comment

As a 6'7" 23 year old who weighs 190lbs, and has been in his fair share of dust ups, I'd like to say I could last a while.
But I would be kidding only myself. If they were paying me $100,000 per round I last, I know the money would be a huge incentive for me to last as long as I possibly could.
But at the end of the day, I'm in there with a guy who's a professional, even if I'm the bigger man, I say I can't take no more after 2 rounds. 3 if I'm really ballsy and/or lucky.
Would you say that is fair John?Comment

This whole scenario reminds me of when they were making the film Royal Flash, in which Henry Cooper and Oliver Reed have a boxing match. Cooper was struggling to teach Reed, a crude pub brawler with no skills whatsoever, the fundamentals of the sweet science, but Oliver kept putting his head down and charging him. So Nosher Powell told Cooper to give Oliver a little tap on the chin the next time.
Henry did just that, and by all accounts Oliver nearly did a somersault as he staggered backwards. His head was spinning for the next few hours. Cooper had long retired by that point, and only him gave a half-hearted dig, but it just shows how those guys are on another level compared with us mere mortals.Comment
