Librado Andrade weighed 178 pounds this morning?

IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute and mandatory challenger Librado Andrade both made the weight again this morning. Bute weighed 176.5 lbs while Andrade scaled in at 178 lbs. According to IBF rules, neither boxer was allowed to exceed the 168 pound division limit by more than ten pounds. The highly anticipated bout will be televised tonight on SHOWTIME at 11PM ET/PT.

Does that mean Andrade had to lose 10 pounds by tonight and Bute 8.5 pounds? Thats a lot to lose in a day

No, the IBF stages two weigh ins. They both made weight yesterday. The second weigh-in is to ensure that they don't gain more than 10 lb. from the point of the official weigh-in.

They made weight yesterday and are within IBF post-weigh in specs (though Andrade barely), so all is good for tonight

But why the ten pound limit on the second weigh in?

I remember a past fight from Joan Guzman and he was easily over the 15 pounds over the initial weigh in

because that's what the IBF stipluates in their rules. You can't weigh more than 10 lb. over the weight limit the morning of a fight. It's to ensure fighter safety, though kind of in reverse of the WBC's policy, which has weigh 30 and 7 day PRE-fight weigh ins

It most likely wasn't an IBF-sanctioned fight. To my knowledge, the IBF is the only one that has that policy.
