And to the kid who brought up Ali in comparison to Joe, stop it, really.

I know you were just trying to make a point about Joe's ****iness compared to Ali's, and how Joe is hated for his, and Ali was loved for his.

Newsflash: Ali wasn't loved in his prime, infact he was quite hated. Nobody likes a loudmouth braggart, and the same is true even of Ali. It wasn't until late in Ali's career when people began to genuinely love him.

You kids need to brush up on history.

WisePugilist his name is, change the name or brush up on history. You're nowhere near wise yet. And this isn't even a Calzaghe thing for me, it's an Ali thing and it's a history thing first and foremost.

Anybody who thinks Ali was loved during his stint at the top needs the smelling salts.

What I don't like about him is the way he fights, everything about him is ass backwards. From the way he squares himself up when throwing, to the awful slapping routine, to his piss poor grasp on balance. He looks like a rough amateur to me nearly every time I see him fight. I can't respect a guy who cannot even master how to throw a proper punch (fist extended, knuckles first, not fist open, palm first.).

Win, lose, or draw, he's gone after Roy and I won't miss him in the least. Hopefully he leaves in defeat, but I don't put much stock in Roy these days. Either way he leaves and I'm happy.

Well, technically not. How long ago did Floyd retire and I still have to listen to his group of fans bring him up daily? I'll never be rid of Calzaghe.

I will give him credit for his chin and stamina though, both of those are world class. It's just the rest that's garbage IMO.
That pretty much sums it up!

He took on and Pavlik and beat him.

Wait, hang on...I THINK that's what happened, considering the reaction on here this past week. Damn, I heard it so much, I'm pretty sure he did.

              Right?

Can someone help me out here?

Joe Calzaghe took on and beat a prime, young p4p fighter last week....right?

What??!!! "No". No??? Are you telling me is was SOMEONE ELSE who schooled Pavlik, and Calzaghe shouldn't take any credit at all??? WHAT???!!!!!

So why did all the fanboys crawl out and hail Calzaghe as an ATG after last Saturday?? Surely they wouldn't celebrate a Bernard Hopkins victory so much, considering they hate, and Joe, hate him and Joe fans rank Calzaghe above Hopkins?

Please, someone! Answer me. Please re-assure me it was Calzaghe who beat Pavlik!!!!!

I remember watching Calzaghe/Kessler and hearing Lampley praising Joe, talking about how "special" he truly was. I wasn't shocked, because Jim gets kickbacks for his on air nuthuggery.

But seriously, his opponet was Kessler. I picked Calzaghe in that fight, I had no idea why anybody would pick Kessler other than his youth. Kessler is nothing special, he's an average technician with a piss poor record (by that I mean he's almost 30 and his most noteable fight is a loss), and that's about as far as it goes.

We've all seen how amazing Lacy turned out to be, and that may very well be due to the beatdown Joe put on him, but I honestly never thought much of the kid going into that fight. I barely knew Lacy, I knew he was hyped, but I also knew Calzaghe beat Eubank and that is why I picked him to win the decision. Granted I didn't expect it to be that bad of a beating, but who did?

Aside from that He's got Eubank, which was a solid win. Hopkins, which is a fair win even though everybody knows I thought Bernard won, and possibly Jones.

I think he lost to Robin Reid a very long time ago. I know if I could be anyone in that fight, I'd rather be the guy who dealt out the damage than the guy who got the judges' approval.

Calzaghe fans don't talk about that fight much but when they do, i hear and read the usual:

                  *Joe had a broken hand.

*Joe had food poisioning in the week leading upto the fight.

                  *Joe had back problems.

                  *Joe lost his lucky underwear.

They shy away from the fact that Robin Reid(who i don't rate) put in, probably the best performance of his life, and should and deserved to get a decision in what i reckon was a 50/50 toss up. Joe was Frank Warren's prize fighter, so he got the SD win.

                  He got lucky.

I don't mind talking about that fight too much Chunk. The issues you speak of are somewhat valid, except of course the last one. It was a close fight yes, but having watched it I do think he just deserved the win, allbeit just. You say it was a 50/50 toss up, then that Robin deserved it. What kind of 50/50 toss up is that, favour the guy you prefer to win, that being Reid?

I had it 7 rounds to 5 I think, forget now though. I and many think JMM deserved at least one win over Pac out of 2 but no one talks about those much. Not even the ones whom think that, they're over it already.

I'm no Reid fan myself. I rate him somewhere between Simon Brown and Andy Kolle. But he deserved that nod, I rarely bring that one up myself because most Joe fans here, only started following him post-Kessler, or post-Lacy in some cases.

And you're right, he did get lucky.

I could write an entire book of my opinions on Calzaghe.

I'm not totally dumping on him though, I've given him some credit, but he is highly overrated by his admirers.
