Calzaghe is alot harder to deal with coming forward because he comes in at angles, throws more and faster combos, faster on his feet, he is simply more varied in his style of attack than Pavlik.

A second fight between hop and calzaghe would probably be very similar to the first fight.

He looked fatigued to me in the 2nd half of the calzaghe fight. I don't know why he was then and not pavlik. Maybe all the clinching took more energy then throwing punches, maybe his training was different, or maybe it just had to do with calzaghe's style, I dunno.

Regardless, calz deserves credit for the close win.
I agree. If he was more active in the Calzaghe fight he might have gotten the nod. ****, he lost an SD. Had he turned up the pace and been more offensive, he might have won that fight. It is mainly because Pavlik and Calzaghe are different fighters though. Pavlik looked like absolute **** on that night though.

I think that B-Hop thought Pavlik was more of a challenge to him than Calzaghe. B-hop fights better wen he's the a bigger underdog. Plus he was coming off a loss to Calzaghe so he felt as tho he had to prove himself to all the non believers. Calzaghe could have hit him flush all night and it wouldn't have done nothing where as if Pavlik hit him flush all night he would have tasted the canvas for the first time in like 15 years.

I just think that Hopkins goes all out the and Brings his A game the bigger the threat and to prove the doubters wrong. WAYYYYYY more people gave B-Hop a better Chance to beat Calzaghe than they did against Pavlik. So no, I dont think it was the same Bernard. I do believe styles makes fights

Exactly. We all get mad at Pavlik for saying "That wasn't me in there" because we all know it was Hopkins that made him like that. But if we're gonna say that, than the same has to ring true for the Calzaghe fight(although I hate to admit it)

so what happened with the taylor fights? why did he lose those 2 fights? was taylor not a big enough threat? was the fact that taylor beat him the 1st fight not enough of a reason for him to become the bernard that you speak of.
styles make fights thats all it is, joe and bernard both have style that makes the opponent look like ****

i think Hopkins against Pavlik was a more active fighter having fought 6 month before (so more stamina) and also more willing to prove himself again. Plus the Pavlik fight was easier because he knew exactly what to do against his style...Calzaghe style is more of a puzzle, i think only fighting him you can understand it and then maybe create a good gameplan. Thats why i think in a rematch Hop would win, he now knows him.

No. Bernard actually let his hands go vs Pavlik. Had he done that vs Joe Calzaghe he would have won the fight in my opinion.
