You mistaking profile for popularity.
Read the forum. Floyd doesn't even have the consensus of popularity on this boxing forum.
Everything Floyd Jr. have earned have been earned on actual accomplishments. Not popularity with fight fans.
He isn't a limited fighter who have been given opportunities through popularity. Like Ricky Hatton. Or Arturo Gatti.
Floyd Jr. worked in dark for many years. Only in the last few years have his name come fully to light at the very top of the sport.
Find me another fighter from this era with that versatility, that work ethic, that skillset and a résumé that solid. The closest thing is Roy Jones Jr. and Bernard Hopkins.
Contrast that with a Ricky Hatton. Who profile have been based around popularity more than accomplishments and who got tore up the first time he went in with a top level fighter in his prime.
Those kind of fighters make the sport go round. They are necessary to the mix.
But that contrast will tell you Floyd Jr. is a long way from the most overrated name in the sport in the last decade.
He is appreciated mainly by the scholars of the sport. Which mean in 20 years when the dust have settled on his career he will be widely appreciated as a ATG in the Robinson, Ali, Leonard bracket.
The truth is proven to be harder to take first time around.
But what was done in dark shall be brought to the light.
