I picked mayweather on the basis of his

      1) amateur career
      2) Progression through weight classes
      3) undefeated record

Losing to Taylor twice is a problem. But it is a pretty damn close competition.

I think Hopkins has the overall better resume.

Floyd needs more credit for beating Manfredy and Famoso.... those are two really good fighters.

Especially HOW he beat them. Dominated Angel and stopped him early. Beat Famoso with one hand.

Hopkins has losses because he took on the toughest people possible, I don't think Mayweather took on the toughest people at 147... Cotto, Williams, Margarito... And so on, plus Mayweather missed opportunities to fight fighters like marquez, pacquiao, morales, and or barrera...

Did Hopkins take on the toughest competition at a FOURTH weight class?

Mayweather didn't "miss" opportunities to fight those guys. He was bigger than they were. I'm thinking that you are not completely familiar with the history here.

Well, Mayweather won all his big fights. Bernard didn't.
