Has anyone reconsidered their stance on the Calzaghe - Jones fight...

...since seeing the old Bernard Hopkins beat the peaking Kelly Pavlik who was seen as "the Man" before the fight (or one of the Men)

i can see a few parallels between the two fights... the old and supposedly washed up great versus the undefeated fighter who's on top of the world at the moment... but more importantly, the fact that everyone knows Hopkins had a style advantage over Kelly, but thought he was too old to "execute" the game-plan so to speak, and i think it's fair to say the Jones vs Calzaghe fight is a similar situation, with the deciding factor being just how much Jones has left in the tank, rather than how good Calzaghe is

agree/disagree? has the Hopkins win given confidence to Jones supporters? or put a little bit of doubt in the back of Calzaghe supporters' minds? do you think the experience advantage Calzaghe has over Kelly is enough stop him from being Pavlik'd?

    NO WAY

Jones is no where near as crafty as Hopkins nor defensively sound and he is up against a better fighter in Calzaghe

i will be truly astonished if Jones wins

No, I always knew Jones would beat Calzaghe now I'm just more excited for it because now I know Hopkins can go out on his career by defeating Jones next year in their final long awaited rematch

you don't think his style seems well suited to taking on Calzaghe though?

made me more convinced calzaghe would win because i thought he was fading abit after hopkins fight, clearly wrong.

No, Jones advantage is his incredible athleticism not his ring craft, defense or intelligence.
Calzaghe is quite versatile and is twice the fighter Pavlik is. Jones may have his moments but ultimately his age will catch up with him because he relies on his natural gifts something Hopkins doesn't.

Prime for Prime Calzaghe loses a decision to Roy but now I don't think so. Calzaghe UD Roy

no because Hopkins knows how to buy time when he is tired and not get hit with flush punches

Jones has never been good defensively and he has a lesser chin than Hopkins and he is not and never has been good at tieing oponents up

he will tire just like Hopkins and pay the price for having a defensive style that is based on reflexes as apose to upper body movement and smarts

If anything it makes us believe that Calzaghe isn't on a slide as much as we think.

                  He will TKO Jones

BTW i didn't mean to compare the actual fighters, just their situations

also i think it's dangerous to underestimate Jones's ring smarts and skill

saying that i still believe Calzaghe will win and i will be supporting him, but just thinking about it planted a seed of doubt in my head
