Did Hopkins just supplant Mayweather, Jr as "best of his era"?

It's close, it depends on what you like really, a man who made 20+ defenses of his title in one division then moved up winning the championship at another division or a guy that had won 6 titles in 5 weight classes. It's close.Comment

Mayweather wasnt the greatest of this era anyhow...
Hopkins was better, RJJ was better, Pacquiao was better. I mean mayweather may have been better then all 3, but he didnt COME CLOSE to proving it. HE avoided the best fighter in every weight class he visited, and called himself the weltherweight king without ever having fought a welterweight...
130: who was better than Corrales and Hernandez?
135: who was better than Castillo?
140: who was better than Hatton (although the limit was 4-7)
154: Who was better than Oscar?Comment

Mayweather doesn't have a Toney on his resume he doesn't have a feat like moving to HW to win a titleComment

He faced the best at 130-135, Hatton fought at 147 not 140, and Forrest argueably was better than Oscar (argueable)Comment

Hell No. send Ivan Claderon to fight Mayweather at 140. Send Israel Vazquez to fight Mayweather at 140. Send Juan Manuel Marquez to fight Mayweather at 140. Send Nate Cambell to fight Mayweather at 140. Bernard beat the best 160 pounder at 170. Bernard beat a blown up Trinidad, A blown up De La Hoya and a blown up Winky Wright a garbage Tarver. Bernard Hopkind is a Hall of Fame boxer regardless of his last 6 fights this just adds to his legacy.Comment

I dunno moving up from Superfeather to Lightmiddle is the same jump in weight classes, and Oscar was the far better big man than Ruiz, but on the other hand the time it took Roy to make the jump was pretty remarkable.Comment

Floyd fought 75% of his career at LW and below. Then beat a still-good HoF'er at JMW.
The weight jumps are equivalent...and may actually favor PBF.
Yes, that Toney win is the signature win. AWESOME performance. Toney was #1 p4p at the time. But people may forget that Corrales was #3 p4p when Floyd beat him.Comment
