    Is Hopkins bad for boxing?

To fans of the sport we can appreciate the greatness of Hopkins but for people new to the sport or critics of the sport IMO he's killing any chance of mass appeal. When a 43 y.o. guy beats up a legit champ like Pavlik it does nothing for boxing except give the haters more reasons to say it's a dying sport. I hope Hop retires for good after this last great win over Pav.

The question you should be asking is whether a guy is a legit champion when he loses to a 43yr old

Well Hopkins was the undisputed mw champ, JT beat him controversially and then by a slightly wider margin, and then Pav KO's JT. So yes I would say Pav is the legit 160 lbs champ. But Hop does nothing for getting new fans to tune in to boxing by beating a young champ, what boxing needs is a new generation of great fighters to emerge because in the days of the mma crap we can't afford Hop to embarrass any more guys.

this was actually an entertaining bout, and the fact that a 43 year old can still fight as good as he does is amazing. he wasnt even that tired at the end of the fight.

I mean cmon, seems pretty inspirational to me.

Its just one loss. Pavlik can come back and gain everyone's hearts again. Kelly's not a household name yet or anything.
