I think prime Chris Eubank would beat Pavlik, probably by KO

I like Pavlik a lot, but I think that he has several flaws, and Eubank had the ability and style to take advantage of them.

Pavlik may win the early rounds, but I think that Eubank would start to time him after that, and start to land more frequently. Eubank had an excellent right hand that was both fast and powerful, and there are several fights where he timed it perfectly.

I also think that Eubank's inside fighting skills are better than Pavlik's. Pavlik needs full extension in order to get full power on his punches. His best work does not come at close range. His hooks and his short punches are not overly impressive IMO. Eubank showed in the fight with Benn that he can go toe-to-toe with a heavy handed non-stop aggression fighter. Unlike Pavlik, Benn did not have a height or reach advantage against most of his opposition, and so his strength was fighting on the inside and scoring a KO with fast hooks or combinations of short punches.

On the inside, I see Eubank out-fighting Pavlik and winning rounds. On the outside, I think Pavlik would have an advantage, but at some point Eubank would time a right hand and knock him out.

There was a poll recently that asked people who was the better fighter, Eubank or Baldomir, and several people voted against Eu despite having never seen him fight. With this in mind, here are a few videos, the first of which shows the specific punch that I see him KOing Pavlik with. The quality isn't good, but it's the best I could find.

    Agreed.

Eubank has showed he is a dangerous counter puncher, and had very good speed and power in his prime. I think he was a heavier puncher than Taylor, and had better stamina. I agree on him timing the right hand well enough to be able to take Pavlik out, even a guy like Lockett could land his right hand on Pavlik, and Eubank is a few thousand leauges above him.

Nice post Clegg. While I agree that Pavlik has some flaws he always seem to find a way to come through.

I saw most of Eubanks's fights in his championship years and ghosh a hated his arrogance. But boy could he fight. He had the heart of a champion and was always in peak condition.

To me this looks like a distance fight. I cannot see Pavlik KO a prime Eubank. It's more likely that Eubank ko's Pav. At the end of the day ( ) I think this fight goes to the scorecards and if the fight was in britain I fancy Chris and in the US I fancy Pav.

Of course Eubank destroys Pavlik. No question from me.

I am a big fan of Pavlik he is a throw back blue collar fighter who will really tap into the amercian market. As Eubank was a brilliant counter puncher in his hey day I think he would really frustrate Pavlik and win on points. As yet we havent seen yet whether Pavlik has a plan B .... tonight should be very interesting in that sense....I think Eubank would win on points but be shaken at a couple of points by pavliks pin point punching however I dont see him catching him often enough.

on another note of the fighters of Eubanks time. and this side of the pond..

Pavlik vs Benn would be a barn stormer..... possibly another Benn vs McCellen fight....
Pavlik would beat Collins in my opinion.
I think Watson would be to canny for Pavlik

Really interesting thread, I think Eubank is quite underrated partially down to his irrating arrogance but it put bums on seats which made him his money...and I respect him in the sesne that he couldnt pull the trigger after the Watson fight you have to respect him for that. Seeing him and Watson together since is very humbling.

(Sorry some of that is off thread)

                    Oh please.

                    Jack Lowe would KO Eubank.
