Thank you sir.
I'll take that as a compliment even though I know you're being sarcastic.Comment

"Seriously hurt"? Were we even watching the same fight?
Joe got up and won both the fights you mentioned. Also he was KD'd by Byron Mitchell but got up and knocked Byron out in the same round. Don't try to tell us Calzaghe has a weak chin.

Like that? No. If he catches Joe and puts him on his seat, it'll probably be from a counter-right cross, or an uppercut..possibly a hook, but less likely.
But as for dropping him "like so", I think comparing Tito's vulnerabilities to Calzaghe's is....I really can't even describe it. Roy won't be picking his shots like he did against Tito, he'll be trying to find space between Zagg's shots to counter without leaving himself open. No way will he have the luxury of loading up like he did in that video without catching 2 or 3 punches while he's getting ready to throw one. This fight could probably be nominated for the most unlike the Tito/Jones fight of any other in history. Trinidad's boxing abilities and ring smarts aren't even in the same universe as Calzaghe's. I'm sorry for the Tito fans who get pissed off for my saying that, but hey....wake the **** up.
The huge problem for Roy in this fight is that he just can't throw enough, long enough, to keep Zaggs off him enough so he can win rounds consistantly. If it were a 6 round fight, I'd expect Roy to win 4, maybe 5 out of those 6 rounds. Being a 12 round fight, I expect him to be conservative with his punches, probably taking the first two rounds fairly convincingly, another round between the 3rd and the 10th, and maybe another 1 or 2 rounds late....maybe even both the 11th and 12th. If he tries to do too much too early, he gasses and gets TKO'd in the championship rounds.
I know he's saying that his body has finally re-adjusted after 3 years, but honestly...what would you expect him to say? "Uh, well, I know I can't go 12 at Joe's pace, but I think I can work a round or two early, another round or two late, look pretty for the judges, and squeeze out a close SD, or at least not lose by KO".
Roy is a good....no, Roy is a ****ing great fighter. He's got more natural talent and abililty poured into him than in any 10 ordinary mortals. But even at his peak, I don't think he could've thrown at Calzaghe's pace for 12 rounds. I could be wrong about that, but that's not important right now. What is important is that he definitely can't throw at Zagg's pace for 12 rounds today, this year, 2008. What he could've done 5 or 7 years ago doesn't matter. He can throw at Calzaghe's pace, in my opinion, for about 7 rounds, 8 if he's been doing extreme endurance training. He just doesn't have a body that can be conditioned like Calzaghe's body can. His biggest chance at a win is, as I said in my other post, to jump on Zaggs early, throw everything but the kitchen sink (and if he has one handy, throw it too), and pray for that perfect hole, through which he can put that perfect punch right in the perfect spot on Calzaghe's chin, get him hurt (NOT down, if he knocks him down, he'll be able to recover and continue, he NEEDS to be out on his feet), and flurry enough to get the ref to stop it. If he doesn't do this, then he just can't win this fight, no way, no how, not without crooked/blind/******/assenine judges or a ****ing idiot for a ref. Or if he tries to do this, and fails, he'll have expended too much energy in the attempt to keep from getting KO'd himself in later rounds.
I really don't look forward to either guy losing, but hey...can't have a fight without a winner (I do NOT like draws), and if one of my favorite guys loses, that also means one of my favorite guys wins, so it balances OK.
I'd actually prefer (I think) to see Roy KO Joe early, and become a superstar a second time 'round. It would be a fitting end to a fantastic career, and he'd go down in history as probably in the top 5 (maybe top 3) greatest of all time, at least in my book. I'd also like to see Zaggs go out undefeated after a long career and become part of boxing history too, but I like underdogs (dunno why), right now I think I'd probably prefer a win by Roy, though this may change.
But wanting something doesn't make it more likely to happen, and my estimate of Roy's chance of success in November is the same...about 15% (and this may even be a little high).Last edited by Stickman; 10-17-2008, 06:26 PM.Comment
