I still dont see how RJJ would win this fight, Am not fooled by his "win" over Tito who has been out of boxing for a while.

I'm still praying to find a way to go see Roy at the garden- the king's comeback.
in regards to the thread topic, I have said this all along. When someone has such a low body fat composition as Roy (about 5% around the time of the Ruiz Fight), losing 25 pounds is a dangerous task. You have to lose pure muscle mass. You basically have to become weaker and build yourself back up, losing every area that must be developed to succeed in the ring: strength, power, stamina, speed, reflexes, etc.
Not only was it absolutely crazy for him to fight Tarver the FIRST time when Roy managed to grind out a victory, but it was ludicrous to give Tarver a rematch so soon after he had completely ruined his body, and then INSANE to give Glen Johnson a rematch merely 4 months after he had been knocked out for the first time, not only for physiological and neurological reasons, but for psychological reasons as well... That being said, Roy looked better than he had in years against Tito, and I know he will get up for Calzaghe. I can't wait!

I actually think Jones looked better against Hanshaw. I was very, very impressed by that performance, particularly the way he matched Hanshaw's stamina and work rate late in the fight and also retained his speed, power and combinations. I never once felt Jones was threatened in there - in fact, it seemed he was more bent on tinkering on some new things and ironing out kinks than he was beating Hanshaw.
I'm not too sure what to make of the Tito fight except he seems rusty. And probably will be in the early rounds against Calzaghe. But Alton Merkerson is one who has always been brutally honest about Roy and his decline. If his recent comments are an indicator, Jones will have done everything he could possibly do to be absolutely 100%, in tip-top shape for this one.Last edited by IMDAZED; 10-16-2008, 08:56 AM.

I still see a close but clear UD with one score card dodgey, and just wonder if people will really accept Roy performed well just because he loses.

Roy's gona be extra 110% fit for this fight, I think he realises he's built back up to something and needs to stamp down an effective intelligent game plan down on Calzaghe, with ultimately quicker hands and a better boxing brain in many ways.

Hopkins was spoken highly of by a lot of people pre Calzaghe, then suddenly most people says he's totally shot and the loss was proof. Not true, was a good performance whilst losing, same as Roy will do.

And I think performing well isn't an indicator of much. Jones has lost a lot of steam and I think people are already saying that - he is simply VERY far away from the fighter he was in his prime. That said, he was so freaking good that people STILL give him a shot to win, others believe he's too far gone. No need for hindsight there.
