Although Jones was 45 minutes late, he is famous for not showing up at all for press conferences. Roy Jones Jr made a startling revelation on why he lost the third fight against Antonio Tarver. Jones Jr blames his father for that loss, saying he made a conscience decision to loss. He made that choice in the fifth round of the fight. According to reporter Tim Smith, Jones said he made a conscious decision to lose the fight with Tarver because he didn't want his dad, Roy, Sr., to get any of the glory.

Jones Jr is quoted by Tim Smith of the New York Daily at the conference as saying: "If I had won the fight my father would have gotten all the glory and he didn't deserve it. If I had knocked out Tarver they would have said it was because of him. My father don't deserve this. Where were you the last 12 years? He's a sharp guy. Having him was more bad than good. He's a good boxing guy. He taught me. But he's not good for me.''"
I see what you mean. But as I said, he never said he lost on purpose to tarver

It should be noted that Jones never actually said he intentionally lost the bout, but many writers in the media are interpreting what Jones said in that type of fashion, by what one writer called "reading between the lines."

Jones, returns to the ring on July 29 in a pay-per-view battle with unknown light heavyweight Prince Badi Ajamu.

dude, that is the reasoning he gave for why he didnt win the fight...

he didnt say tarver was the better man... he didnt say tarver was outboxing him

that is the reason he gave for why he didnt win the fight

besides Cotto-Margarito, this was the ony fight I wanted to REALLY see this year! The closer it gets the more I'm convinced that Roy will win. Roy sat ringside and watched Joe struggle with a 43 yr old man......in boxing you're only good as your last fight!! Roy dominated Tito with torn muscle in his arm.....like Kris stated, thats god dam impressive

Bernard said this would be a slap boxing contest(I disagree) I think we will see 12 rounds of world class boxing at its best by 2 guys capable of such performances!! Both fighters will get hit often....why? neither guy has ever faced a guy with the type of hand speed they'll be confronted with on fight night. I just think Roy will put on the performance of his life because Calzaghe will come in lookin for a KO that he'll never find that night. He thinks Roy's chin is weak.....I never hear noone mention this but Ruiz caught Roy kinda flush in the 1st round of that fight and Roy took it well!
