Watching Pavlik's earlier fights, I noticed that he actually has deceptive speed, with less pop on his punches, but the speed is alright if he is willing to sacrifice some power.

Agreed if you actually watch Kelly Pavlik's first pro fight he actually has some quick hands, he was putting combinations together very well and fast. But as you said he wasn't putting as much effort into his punches as he does now.

Yeah, I was really surprised when I saw him flurry or throw multi-punch combinations with relatively quick hands, wouldn't have expected that of him from his recent fights, but the speed's there.
