Was Ike really a murderous puncher?

That whole Karma thing is weird, I can never give it out when I want to. I dont give a damn about the points or ratings or whatever goes on in this site, but its easier than actually posting again. yet it always says that I have to spread it around or something before I can do it again, even if its been forever since Ive given someone that thing.
its a little irritating.Comment

AMEN!how is he overrated? He knocked out Byrd brutally, which didnt happen again until he was shot about 6 or 7 years later against our current #1 Heavyweight, and was able to go the distance with both Vitali and Wladimir right after Ike knocked him out. yea, I know, Vitali quit. but even if Vitali wasnt injured, he wouldnt knocked out Byrd. watch the fight, Byrd was never actually hurt, just getting poked constantly from the outside.
And as far as I know, he broke the record for the amount of punches thrown in a heavyweight fight. He might have had great stamina, just maybe.
I dont expect him to last against any of the ATG heavyweights or anything, but theres no doubt whatsoever he would have dominated the stale mid 2000s where guys like Brewster, Rahman, John Ruiz and Chris Byrd were champions.
and I dont know if Vitali would have ever ended up fighting him, but that would have been a great match. Wlad would have too, but Wlad wasnt quite as developed as he is now back then, much more vulnerable.
and all the while Ibeabuchi would have been getting better.
Good point at the end there too, Ike was still a novice, he'd be getting better and better most likely.
Not to be tho i guessComment

Man, I just figured out how to give out karma the other day. That whole Karma thing is weird, I can never give it out when I want to. Nice work on Ibeabuchi. The Tua that he beat probably stops 99% of the heavys today: A 226lb version who helped set a record for punches thrown in a fight. And Ike played the role of boxer in that one.
Then to turn around and expertly stalk Chris Byrd in that Jersey Joe Walcott style with the crab defense...I marveled at how good he was so early in his pro career.
Ibeabuchi-Grant (which was scheduled to happen enxt) would've told us a lot about how he would've handled a bigger guy. But I suspect he might've blasted Grant out early.Comment

Ike was a good fighter he had good hand speed good jab great combos, His KO percentage in his first 20 fights was around the same as one Sonny Liston. He destroyed a prime Chris Byrd in much more impressive fashion than anyone else could, I remember watching Vitali against Byrd and Larry Merchant who seems to like the Klits even admitted that Vitali looked slower and more mechanical than what Ike did.Man, I just figured out how to give out karma the other day.

Ike also still holds the record for the most punches thrown in a heavyweight fight so he must have had very good stamina.
I think he couldhave beaten the Klits but thats just my opinion.Comment

I personally think Ike Ibeabuchi would KO Wladimir Klitschko, i think he would find that chin sooner or later. Ike Ibeabuchi unlike Samuel Peter, throws alot of punches he is much quicker and he puts effective pressure on and with Wladimir Klitschko's suspect stamina, i don't think it ends well for Wladimir Klitschko.
Vitali Klitschko's punch and lean back style would frustrate Ike Ibeabuchi, but im not sure if Vitali Klitschko's stamina could withstand Ike Ibeabuchi's constant workrate and aggression. It would certainly be a close call its hard to call IMO.Comment

He was a TANK, like I thought Sam Peter was a tank...
And a Tank will have a chance in any era and will always cause problems...too bad Peter never became that man, Ike probably would have.
TANK= he can stick his chin out and you swing a baseball bat at it and he wont drop| and he can one hit it quit it.Comment

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. When a guy wit mad potential blows his opportunity, it's easy to look back and see him as greater than he really was. Ike was tough and coulda done some big things, but he wasn't a murderous puncher or the future of ****. Just a good HW who went to waste.Comment

Totally agree. He only fought two opponents worth anything, and he barely squeaked out a win over Tua. He never proved that he could handle a tall fighter with a strong jab like Lewis or Klitschko.Comment
