Hops can catch you with a sneaky counter and knock you down. But in no way shape or form will he "hurt" Kelly or even come close to stopping him. He will have to get close and let his hands go in order to do that. If he does, he himself will get smashed.

I agree for the most part.
I won't go as far to say that Kelly can't be hurt by Bernard though.

My question is, if Hopkins played it safe with Cal-slappy, how much safer will he be with a guy like Pav who can drop bombs?

And if Hop plays it so "safe", will he be able to get a knock out!?
          I HIGHLY doubt that!

...and you're point about Cotto does make sense?
You talk about the unpredictability of a Cotto/Marg match up then turn around a make an ABSOLUTE prediction yourself.

Kel can set up KO's better then Cal.. His punches, jabs etc. are designed for that purpose..he wont go in there wind milling and slapping. Cal landed and so shall Kel..

I think he can hurt Kelly too, and if he does that enough times...who knows?

What really bothers me is how Pavlik looked in the rematch against Taylor. I think he showed a lack of versatility there. And Taylor isn't even that good at boxing, he's a little inconsistent. I was impressed by his performance that night.

Pavlik will have one strategy against Hopkins. My guess is that it works but if it doesn't, I'm interested in seeing what his back-up plan is. I once interviewed Antonio Tarver before the Hopkins fight in 2006. Tarver had bodly declared that he'd stop Bernard in 6. So I asked him if there was a plan B. He said, "Yeah, I'ma win the fight." Let's hope Pavlik is a little smarter.

I really don't think Hopkins will knock Pavlik out. That'd be unbelievable.

Tarver was coming down from 220lbs and doing a movie. Tarver wasnt 25 yr old. TARVER doesnt have the KO ratio nor the punch out put that Kelly does..
Im PRETTY sure..Kell and team can go 12 and win. They did it against Taylor.

So what if he didnt knock Taylor out in the rematch. Taylor is still a young prime fighter.. Hops cant stay outta way for 12 against Pav. Just isnt happening..he is getting to old.

I think you missed the gist of my post. While Tarver wasn't 25, came down from weight, etc...that doesn't have anything to do with having a plan B.

And while I believe Pavlik will win, I also believe - based on what I saw in the rematch against Taylor - that he doggedly sticks to his plan. So far it's worked. I guess, why fix it if it ain't broke? We'll see against Hopkins.

taylor fought as well as he ever will in that 2nd pavlik fight. thats the problem, he gets no credit. he fought kelly very tough, and would have beaten bhop again that night, by his largest margin imo! that fight was a good fight by both men, and very close.
