I've agreed with him all along. Calzaghe made early adjustments and took over the fight. Then he made more adjustments to take over again. Pavlik can't do that. And Pavlik is not used to fighting twelve rounds, he can't keep the pace the Joe set. So the fact that Hopkins gassed against Joe means little.

pavlik's work rate is not nearly as good as joe's and neither is his footwork and speed, can pavlik make hopkins look his age?
i doubt it.

I think its important to note the amount of energy Taylor needed to expend to in turn, move away, and at times, fight Pavlik off, as well as be aggressive.
Pav doesn't have the work rate of a Calzaghe nor the ring intelligence, but his physicality and work rate will be two problems for Hopkins. He is bigger than Trinidad, a bigger puncher, more intelligent in the ring, can take a punch and recover from a punch plus Hopkins isn't the same fighter now that he was when he fought Trinidad.
Hopkins is NOT going to be able to fight off the ropes in this fight the way he likes.
I think Hopkins knows everything I have written in this thread and he doesn't care. I think he is going for broke and plans on attacking early and trying for a big knock out victory. Total glory. I think he figures if he can't get it, he can always turn it into a frustrating holding foul fest filled with controversy in which he can walk away saying he lost, but with an asterisk attached somehow, plus a nice pay check and his legacy in tact. But I think that that is where he is wrong, that after he realizes he can't KO Pavlik, that he won't be able to hold off Pavlik with his superior ring intelligence combined with pinpoint precision fouling and holding. Which is why I can see a knock out anytime after the fifth round, if not a wide Pavlik UD.

I wasnt impressed with the way Calzaghe fought Hopkins even though I thought he edged it out. You cant tell me the squared up flailing flurries are going to be more effective than Pavlik's stinging 1-2's. Calzaghe sold out to hit B Hop, giving him an easy target. Pavlik will methodically move forward, throwing his much longer punches. It may look ugly early, but the punishment will build, and Hopkins will get battered late.
Another thing to look at. What type of fighters does Hopkins pride himself on being an ace against? Southpaws. Now look at the fighters he's fought in his second career so to speak. They have all been southpaws. His pin point counter right hand is money against southpaw fighters. Pavlik is good at landing his jab in his opponent eye to blind the following right hand. Hopkins wont have as easy of a time countering.
Sure he might avoid a lot of the punches coming his way but he doesnt throw back enough. If he tries to be more offensive, he'll get hit more. I also gurantee you Pavlik will land his uppercut when Hopkins lunges in. Something Calzaghe didnt even try.

He made the picks of Margs over Cotto, Clottey over Judah, Marquez over Casamayore, Vitali over Peter, and more. The only bet he got wrong was the UNDER against Juan vs Katsidis. He took under 10.5 and it went 12. That is the only wrong one that he has had, and who thought it would go to decision? I didnt.
Just wastch and check out his other stuff. THIS DUDE IS GOOD!!!!!!
