I agree, I actually think he might stop Hopkins in the later rounds.
fact is Hopkins has never been stopped......fact is Hopkins has only gotten tired in 1 fight!!! Now you all talkin like this is some problem he has had his whole career. Joe throws from all angles, Kelly doesnt.....Joe was the quickest fighter B-Hop had fought since Roy in '93.......Kelly is not!! So if you're thinking Hopkins will gas against 1D Pavlik or get stopped(which has NEVER happened) you can't be droppin logic.....sounds more like ya wish or something like that!!

Hopkins by UD.....
Hopkins is 43
I've been a big Hopkins fan for years now, I just don't think he has anything left in the tank and is just trying to make big money before going out.
Regardless of what we think we will find out on Saturday.
I just can't see B-Hop winning this fight. Every Pavlik critic says he's 1-dimensional fighter a simple 1-2 and that's it. NEWSFLASH people they have said that 4-ever about this kid and he has proven it to work. In B-Hop's prime he beats Pavlik but an old, slow B-Hop won't be able to pull this one out. Also Calzaghe in no shape or form hits as hard as Pavlik and Kelly is in his prime Joe was not. Then people bring up the Tito fight and neutralizing his 1 punch power JEEZZZ that fight was over 7 years ago and Tito was essentially a blown up Welterweight Kelly is a BIG middleweight that I think will be just fine at 170. Pavlik out works B-Hop possibly even stoping him late. You can't win a fight just throwing 1 punch and holding.

Cadillac Man, I hope you are right. But the more I think about it, and though i "hope" Pavlik will win, alot of factors go against him.
He is coming up from 160lbs. Though he did fight Taylor at 166, and i believe ended up closer to 170 on fight night, he did not show the same dominance and power usually displayed at 160. I would not say his power was diminished, honestly i thought that Taylor just simply fought a better fight and was alot smarter.
But that is the point. Taylor went to school in the second fight, but Benard Hopkins graduated a long time ago. Taylor fought in spurts and clinched when necessary. This is exactly what Benard is a master at doing.
Maybe B-Hop does not win the fight, but possibly a close loss to which he will claim that he truely won the fight and the judges are out of their minds.
Remember, he has only been down twice, quite some time ago, and has never been stopped. But with that said, I would love to see Benard Hopkins get KTFO and leave the sport, he has done great things in the past, but he is done.
The whole time I watched it, I was hoping the guy would mention Hopkins' gassing after mid-rounds against Calzaghe. He hid it well, so he may not have even noticed it. He didn't mention the faked low blow claim and subsequent break he took. And I don't think he'll get lucky enough to have a ref that'll let him get by with that **** twice in a row.
I agree. Hopkins gassed and got a gift of a rest, or really just took one and that mouse Cortez did nothing. So right there, you have to factor that into Hops' chances in future fights. He won't likely be getting a rest here. I also don't think Pavlik's skill set is as poor as its made out to be.
I take Pavlik in this one with a lot of confidence. He throws something like 100 punches a round and Hopkins throws in the mid thirties.
Pavlik's power will be great at 170. To conclude that Pav's power wasn't increased because he didn't knock Jermain out in the rematch is dumb. Jermain fought a different fight which is why it was close. Jermain needed all his skill, speed and focus to hang in there and keep it close. Hopkins can't fight the kind of fight that Jermain did, he doesn't have the youth and speed.
Also, Pavlik will be well prepared to fight a rough fight. What I expect to happen is for Hopkins, not Pavlik, to go for the quick KO, when he doesn't get it, I expect Hopkins to start fouling, in hopes to frustrate Kelly and draw Kelly into some big fouls himself, to create chaos and breaks in the action, and point deductions.
Ultimately, I see Pavlik winning this about 9 rounds to 3, but a knock out of Hopkins won't suprise me. You can say Pavlik hasn't seen anything like Hopkins, its true, but the reverse it also true. Pavlik's combo of work rate and power, plus, yes I will say it, ring intelligence, will make Hopkins fight much more than he wants to, but the Pavlik shots are going to hurt a lot more than Calzaghe's shots.
Hops knows he is in a helluva fight, he wants the cash and more than this he wants to challenge himself, because he knows its possible - that he COULD possibly knock out Pavlik, and its this that I think draws him into this risky match as much as a nice fat payday. Props to the old man for taking on this huge risk this late in the game of life.
But I don't think there will be any controversy with the result. A wide Pavlik UD or a knock out of Hopkins which in all honestly could come anytime after the fifth round. The only controversy will be in the disgust once again at Hopkins dirty tactics.
That lawyer needs to go back and recognize Hopkins gassing out vs Zag. How can you not factor that in to your assessment of his performance? He also forgot to mention that Wright was fighting at 170, not 160, or 154 where he was best. Also where was the assessment of Hopkins two close fights with Taylor? Both of those fights were closer than either of the Pav / Hops fight.
Mr Lawyer is reaching and ignoring facts he doesn't like. But that is what a good lawyer does....
Hopkins isn't the same fighter from even 2 years ago when he beat Tarver, I thought the fight with Winky could have gone either way and he didn't look great there. The guy makes some good points but Hopkins likes to set his own rhythm fight in spurts, Pavlik will fight his fight putting preasure and make the old man work. Hopkins might do good the first 6 rounds but he will fade, in his fight with Calzaghe he looked to have nothing in the last rounds and was even holding.
Just my opinion
If you look at the Tarver fight he wasn't really throwing a lot of punches. Instead he set a "high pace" by feinting the socks out of Tarver. That's why I felt he faded against Calzaghe. Roach didn't understand Hopkin's gameplan
