  • Did Sam Peter lose that fight before he entered the ring? Did he even try?

It seemed to me that Sam was so lost in terms of the pre-fight psychological war that he didn't even really try to win that fight. He just accepted defeat before it even came. I've never seen him so lethargic or dispassionate. The thing a lot of people enjoyed about Sam was his fire, his anger. Yet, in the scenario where he should have been the most angry, he seemed to look at Vitali and lay down before finding a way out with the open scoring after the 8th.

I'm not discrediting Vitali, let's make that clear. He beats any version of Sam. What I am wondering here is if it seemed to everyone else that Sam seemed to know this and was just bracing for the inevitable in the ring. Did he seem not to try or really care to anyone else?

EVERYBODY who fights Vitali underestimates him, Peter was no exception. He tried, he just couldn't find a way in past Vitali's left. Same thing that's happened to nearly everyone else who's been in the ring with him. They see his clumsy-looking style and think "I can knock this guy right the **** out", and when they finally get in the ring with him, they realize getting close enough to actually get the job done is something that just can't be done unless you have comparable size, reach, and speed. Sanders had the best chance, but he was in horrible condition, and was finished after just a few rounds. Lewis was the only one who did any serious harm, and even that was on the lucky side; watch how the cut was opened...the right hand didn't land quite flush, glanced off, and ripped the brow open. Probaly wouldn't have happened again if they'd fought another 5 times, but once was enough. The damage to Vitali's lip and the bruising and cuts under the eye were cause mostly by Lewis' head/dreads.

I think J has a point. Steve Bunce also mentioned something along similar lines. There were certain things that might have deflated Peter's enthusiasm before the fight, so yes, it's a possibility. Ultimately, he wasn't gonna win this fight, but I was left with the impression that he didn't really even try.

this reminded me a lot of Wlad vs Brewster. shorter guy who just didnt even try to get inside and start working, they just layed around on the outside trying to box with a way taller guy and better boxer...and they stopped trying to do even that after a few rounds.

they almost didnt even show up to fight, just showed up to get beat up until their corner stopped it and they went home with a loss and a payday

I agree with you, there was no passion at all. He looked like he knew what was about to happen........

He definitely put together a lacklust performance. I'm not taking anything away from Vitali, but something was missing on Sam Peter's part.
