Because hes crazy, and couldn't help himself. I think it was mainly because Bowe wouldn't go down from taking all of that punishment and Galota started to panic.

I think Golota just had psychological problems. He's previously headbutted people, and got involved in bar rooms brawls.

His trainer told him to punch him high (in the head) and since Golata is Polish, naturally he hit low.
