Vitali had been training for a very different fighter, Kirk Johnson, and didn't have time to prepare properly for Lewis.

I think the better way to phrase this is that he has never been vanquished... or anything close to it.

He was ahead on the scorecards both times he lost, and the knockouts weren't because he got hit so hard that he couldn't continue. He hurt himself once, and his skin broke because of a punch... it would be interesting to see if Vitali could have continued to beat Lewis if they would have let him continue with that cut.

of course he's been beaten. he quit. thats the worst kind of loss.
the only reason he hasn't been 'beaten' is because he quit before
he could get stopped. why would you quit when you've won 11 out
of 12 rounds ? ... because you know you're going down in the 12th ..

Klitschko's promoter, Klaus-Peter Kohl, signed a contract with Lewis's management for the fight to take place before December, the Web site said. It added that Klitschko would fight an unspecified opponent on the undercard to Lewis's fight against Kirk Johnson in Los Angeles on June 21.

Klitschko, the top contender for Lewis's World Boxing Council heavyweight title, was scheduled on the undercard. His fight against Cedric Boswell was canceled.

If you or your corner insists on a cease to the fight, it's a loss.

                  Sorry.

thats how pathetic his quitting was . all he had to do was box
and survive for 3 minutes aganst a light punching byrd.
obviously he felt he couldn't do it. watch the final round
                    byrd was getting to him.

<< If you or your corner insists on a cease to the fight, it's a loss.>>

                      exactly.

in fact when fighters quit like that, they are robbing their opponents
of a knockout victory. its like as long as I am winning lets keep fighting
but if I am losing, i'll pack up and go home. its like you want to play
chess as long as you are winning .... but if you think you're going to lose you say i don't want to play anymore ... vitali didn't want to play anymore
                      byrd was getting to him
