soto is the wbc superfeatherweight champion (well after he destroys gamaliel diaz) but he cant defend his title because the mandatory lorenzo is injured until december because soto destroyed his face
so in the case the champion cant defend his title an interim belt is created
so rosales is fighting for the interim title and will fight the winner of lorenzo vs soto IF lorenzo wants to face soto again

To me it is all Joe Cortez's fault. If he acted competently we wouldn't have to go though this charade.

Yea just before the Trinidad fight, it was actually a month before the fight but his lawyer managed to get him out on the basis that he was contracted for a job.
