Valuev vs. Holyfield Depends on Don King's Approval

The boxing world went wild when Evander Holyfield (42-9-2, 27 KOs) recently revealed in the press that he was offered a crack at WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev (49-1, 34 KOs). The fight is far from done, but Holyfield leaked the information, in a strategic move, to create the predictable media frenzy that broke out. The press went wild, for better or worse, over the near 46-year-old former champ going up against a seven-foot, 300-pound, once-beaten fighter. [details]

Neither King nor Valuev want this fight - it's not going to happen.

Is there a possibility of Valuev fighting the winner of tomorrows fight? Probably not - if Peter wins, King will prefer to have two titleholders instead of one, and he will not let Valuev fight Vitali.

Please all us Boxing scene members should have a bake sale and then sell our first born before Holy fight the Russy giant. He needs the money Buddys.

I doubt Don King would mind making the fight.

Boris Dimitrov is bad enough even if he isn’t the cartoon spy Boris Badenov.

Mr. Dimitrov is the manager of WBA heavyweight champ Nikolay Valuev and he’s just made it clear in a public statement that the Russian Giant will not be fighting Evander Holyfield.

Someone floated a trial balloon for such a fight between the monstrous Valuev and Holyfield, age 46, and Sauerland Events put out a quizzical press release on the topic Thursday.

Then along came Boris to give the brutal mismatch a big thumbs down.

Good for you, Boris. Good for you, Valuev.

Here’s what the manager said on the topic:

“We have STRONGLY objected this idea. We have nothing but respect for such a fighter as Evander Holyfield, and we revere his amazing accomplishments. But what shall one think about us? One will think we are looking for honor and glory by defeating "oldies." I don't want to insult Mr. Holyfield, but he is almost 46 years of age. We have sent our decision to Sauerland Event today: We mind fighting Evander Holyfield. We adhere to this attitude and you can publish it officially. We are supported by Mr. King. I want to emphasize that once again. We respect Evander Holyfield, we revere his accomplishments, but Nikolay doesn't want to box him. That will be ridiculous!"

            ‘Nuf said in any language.

That's not Don King, hopefully it's true though.

I doubt that the fight is going to happen but if it did, I'd favor Evander heavily.

You can't be ****ing serious. You are all that is wrong with boxing today. I hope with that kind of prediction you don't consider yourself a boxing fan.
