Back then he wasn't a legitimate welterweight contender. If he said anything, nobody would have listened. To go back six years is the ultimate in irrelevance.

It should be the other way around. Paul Williams is the cream of the crop in the welterweight division. Let the man unify the titles and run the division as a singular champ taking on all comers. Not going to happen unless Paul appeals to more latino boxing fans who are the financial base of boxing. The only reason the Golden Boy is who he is today is because of all those Latino fans coming out to see him fight on Cinco Demayo. It takes a superstar to ignite all fans and unfortunately Mayweather Jr. (spoiled as he was) was the only one close to that. EVeryone else is garbage compared to the Sugar Ray Leonards, Tommy Hearns and Marvin Haglers of yesteryear. Now we are left with media darlings DLH, Margarito, Cotto, Arreola and the next Latino or Puerto Rican decent fighter who can pull numbers. Williams will whup all their asses. One thing is for sure, the fight will not happen on November 29, the scheduled HBO date for Williams. Williams would love to have that fight in November, as would Clottey, but it won't happen. So is Williams still fighting on the 29th? If he does, i think a fight with Clottey is likely in Febuary. With Marg/Mosley in january it makes sense for the winners of both fights to unify mid 09.
