  • Paul Williams vs. Joshua Clottey, No Movement Yet

The interest is there. The fighters want it. But a unification bout between welterweights Paul Williams and Joshua Clottey is not getting any closer to becoming a reality. One thing is for sure, the fight will not happen on November 29, the scheduled HBO date for Williams. Williams would love to have that fight in November, as would Clottey, but it won't happen. The root of problem is the available funds from HBO [for the November show]. [details]

since it doesn't look like it can happen this year, let hope it can happen in late january or early february. since both fighter want this to happen all the pw bashers that made threads about him ducking clottey land preferring to fight jennings/rogriguez are looking pretty ignorant right about now.

So is Williams still fighting on the 29th? If he does, i think a fight with Clottey is likely in Febuary. With Marg/Mosley in january it makes sense for the winners of both fights to unify mid 09.

        Wishful thinking, me thinks.

What I find more funny is saying Paul is scared. Style wise...Clottey will have a HARD time.

Do you know any of the Powerball lottery numbers coming up?

Williams beats the **** out of most with his big ass.

He and Antonio need to move up in weight. Its impressive they can
make the weight but not really surprising they beat most welters.

I like better match ups myself...Paul and Antonio need to be fighting
a Vernon Forrest or Shane Mosley @154 but continue to play on the
small court. Its getting kinda played out now how they ***** about
no one wanting to fight them when they both know why.

You have to understand that WW is the second most glamorous division in the entire sport next to HW. If the fighters can make the weight, then they can fight at that weight. Margs is in his 30's, so he is not going any higher than 154. Pwill is in his mid-20's and has shown that he is willing to fight at bigger weights, but he wants to be the WW Champ first because that brings the glory.

I would pick Pwill over Forrest and Shane by KO. Margs would beat Forrest but lose to Shane.

I hope they do this in early '09. Sucks SSM is bein considered as a tuneup for Marg, but if he's got the balls to do it so be it. I say **** the Cotto rematch. No point unless you want Cotto dead. Let Marg fight Shane or whoever, have Clottey and Pwill unify, then Marg can face whoever wins. If we gotta wait for the Cotto rematch fine, but by the end of '09 Marg better fight the Clottey-Pwill winner.

Tony was quiet as a mouse back when Vernon and Shane were Champions.

He didn't even open his yap when Spinks and Mayorga had the Titles.
