Forrest Has a Short Deadline To Accept Sergio Martinez

BoxingScene.com was informed that WBC junior middleweight champion Vernon Forrest (41-3, 29KOs) has until October 14 to make a decision as to whether or not he will fight mandatory/interim-champion Sergio Martinez (44-1, 24KOs). Martinez accepted a step-aside deal for the WBC title to be at stake when Forrest went forward with the Sergio Mora rematch. [details]

I think he should take it, the belt is the main thing that is keeping Forrest relevant in the division, he needs to try to keep it, no one would fight him if he doesn't have a belt.

Forrest wants a bigger fight then this so I expect him to go after another belt holder and vacate if he can.

No way Forrest fights this guy. He knows there is no way he beats him.

Well I wouldnt say that, Forrest if he can recapture the form he had in Mosley 1 then he has a great chance. And you've followed boxing long enough to know that nothing is a sure thing in this game.

The Mosley fight was a long, long time ago. And Vernon won't fight lefties, especially talented ones.

exactly, not at his age and considering how slow he looked in his last fight. i don't want to see this fight it would be a mismatch along with so many other fight which really proved nothing, like cotto-mosley which pumped cotto to lose to margarito.

True the fight was several years ago, but Forrest still has decent power. It's not out of the question that Forrest may hurt Martinez, or stay at range and box or hit and hold hatton style his way to a win.

I don't see Forrest gettin any big fights. Dude should take care of his mandatory then try to unify the belts. I think he beats Verno and Santos.
