# Sanchez-Gómez
* Salvador Sanchez inflicts what many consider the greatest defeat in Puerto Rican boxing history, knocking Gómez out in eight rounds to retain the world Featherweight title
* Sanchez defends his WBC Featherweight title against Juan Laporte. The two were scheduled for a rematch but Sanchez was killed in a car accident before the bout took place.
# Trinidad-de la Hoya
* Trinidad defeats de la Hoya by a 12 round decision to unify the world Welterweight title, in what many Puerto Ricans see as revenge for Gómez's loss at the hands of Sanchez
if chavez fought camacho in the 80's he woulda got his ears boxed off.
Do Puerto Ricans really view Trinidad's win over Oscar as revenge for the Gómez-Sánchez fight??? That just doesn't make much sense.
Are you serious about Camacho boxing Chávez's ears off if they would've fought in the 80s??? That seems far-fetched. I think Chávez beats Camacho 7 days a week and twice on Sundays...Camacho just doesn't seem like he ever would've been able to beat Chávez no matter when they fought.
No matter what though, the Mexico-Puerto Rico rivalry is the greatest in boxing! No one can argue that there's been a lot of not-very-talented hand-picked fighters from the opposing country put in to face some of each nation's best, but when it comes to the big-time fights, it's been a very even and fun to watch rivalry!

It is funny how all the PR's are naming all these bums that their "good" fighters fought.
Just put it like this, alll the MAJOR fights between a big name Mexican and a big name PR mostly ended up in Mexico's favor.
That is the reality of it. You can name as many bums as yall want, but what matters are the big fights. And those usually end up with the PRs on the losing end.
