It looks as if SMW are about to be the best division in boxing.

If Abraham and Pavlik move to 168 along with Taylor, Miranda, Kessler, Bute, Froch, etc., then it is a clear second to WW. If Maragrito and Williams leave WW, and Mayweather doesn't fight again, SMW will be first.

There's some tough action fighters at 168. If matched together correctly, there's some damn good scraps waitin to happen there. I wouldn't put 168 past 147 or 135 just yet, but 168 is doin a lot better. We just need more SMW fight to take place, or at least be televised in the US.

Its a shame this didnt happen a couple of years ago when Calzaghe was fighting at that weight. The division looks very strong i would like to see
            who the best fighter is

It's either SMW or Lightweight which are the best divisions in boxing. 168 looks fantastic though

Pavlik and Abraham are going back down. Also, Calzaghe is likely to depart soon, possibly in his next fight. WW > LW > SMW.

yeah it looks like a sound division and with pavlik, abraham and taylor coming up it just adds to the mix. there are also two very good young canadians in bute and jean pascal and in fighters like miranda, manfredo, lacy and bika there are some recognisable household names.

as flat 1985 said its a shame that calzaghe wasn't a couple of years older or a couple of years younger - of he was older he would have taken on watson, collins, benn and eubank maybe even RJJ or toney and if he was younger he would have added pavlik, abraham and bute to his casualty list.

i still dont think the SMW is as deep as the lightweight or the WW division. the lightweight division in particular is packed with p4p talent and the WW has some good fighters as well. i see SMW taking over the welterweight division within a year, PW, berto and margarito are all talking about moving. maybe if mayweather comes back then WW will still be a top division otherwise SMW will take over.

P.S. really hope kessler can stay in SMW long enough to take on some of these fighters, it wont be long till he moves up.
