  • Benn - Roy woulda killed me!

Ok justched the vid of Benn talking on fighting Roy Jones, well game eh!?

But Listen to this, no Bull ****, I met Nigel years later at my local Nightclub where he was DJ'ing and got talking boxing to him for a bit.
I mentioned that it was a pitty a Jones fight never came off and do u know what he said? "Na im glad he'd have killed me!"
And he was serious, he added he woulda fought anybody but now knew that Jones was on another level. Jones hadnt lost to Tarver at this point by the way. Very Honest i was impressed

Jones, in his prime would have killed ANYONE. The problem with Jones is just that he needs speed to implement his boxing, unlike some other fighters who need it at a lesser degree. When he turned old and the speed was gone, suddenly you have everyone wanting to fight him, people who would have been KOed in 1 vs him now know they can win, specially after seeing Jones failing to put hurt opponents to rest (Trinidad, Hanshaw). That tell these opportunist snakes "hey, even if he hurts me with his "boxing" of which i know nothing, he can't finish me off. add his terribly low punch output, bad defense and somewhat lower accuracy and it's money in the bank and a legacy for me" Many fighters are aiming at Jones now. After Calzaghe he will surely stick around for more, even if he loses.

If he's talking about 1995, he's right, Jones would've beaten him without much difficulty at that point, Jones was just entering his prime and Benn wasn't the fighter he once was.

I'd pick Jones over him prime for prime as well but it would have been a more competitive fight.

I think its generally excepted Roy Jones Jnr is the superior fighter of the two, i just thought people would be intrested to hear what a retired Benn had to say on the fight, i know i was shocked!

Of course that was a good while back now, Jones has been KO'd since mabey Nige has changed his mind

I think Benn punched to wide for a rapid sharp shooter like Roy at any point, At the weight Roy could really ****, Benn wasnt made of stone either so i think Jones could get a relativly quick stoppage in an Easy but Dangerous fight if that makes sense!?

I agree, Jones would have been able to pick Benn apart with his faster, straighter shots at any point of Benn's career and the fight probably would have ended in a knockout because as you said, Benn doesn't have the best of chins and Jones was more willing to go for a knockout back then and yes, he would probably make it look a bit easy but Benn would be dangerous because he would always have his power.

Yup spot on, Benn always had the power infact theres a strong case to say Benn was MORE Dangerous when hurt! But Roy was cautious even when going for the kill, cant see him running into anything silly

Benn was always very honest. Very down to earth guy for a boxer.
