"Kessler is better than Pavlik!"

So says Mikkel Kessler's sparringpartner Russ Thompson: "Mikkel is a great fighter. He knows a lot of combinations and he's fast. He works a lot. He reminds me of Kelly Pavlik only faster", says Thompson who went the distance with "The Ghost" in 2004.

If a fight between Kessler and Pavlik is made, Thompson thinks the result is a given: "I think it's going to be an easy fight for Mikkel. Kessler's speed will be decisive."

Mikkel Kessler himself want's a big fight after Haussler. "Kelly Pavlik's style suits me good", he says, "that would be a great fight for me".

Thompson is impressed with Kessler's speed: "Mikkel's strenght is the straight shots. I am a solid defensive fighter, but Kessler often catches me with straight punches."

i want to see this one in the worst way!
kessler would be a very very live underdog here.

would be nice if kessler took note of what khan did and gets away from surrounding himself with "yes" people.
after his next fight he's got to step it up.
would be sad if his team keeps him fighting euro lackeys.

I would like to see Kessler vs. Miranda, because Miranda isn't as weak as most of the people think. He has been beaten by two good and very powerful guys, but this doesn't mean he is crap. I really would like to see how Kessler handles him, especially his punching power.

Kessler and Pavlik dont fight alike, I dont really get why people say that. Im sure you could find some things where they are alike, but they punch differently, Pavlik goes to the body much more often and much harder, their defences are different, etc.

I would like to see Kessler and Pavlik fight.

maybe so, but pavlik was 22 yrs old 4 years ago, and far more green than he is now! the comparison is not all that current imo, but whatever. he's the mw champion of the world, and beat the man. kessler as good as he may be, lost! don't care if joe is thought of to be so much better than taylor, and since they have not ever fought one another it can not be said for sure, and it is what it is. pavlik took the titles, and kessler blew his shot at the big time. one rose up, one sank. until kessler proves he can win the big fight he is stuck in a patrick ewing role imo. great player, but could never get over the top hump to win the title. i will be the first to give kessler his props if he beats kelly or the like, but until that happens i am sick of everyone trying to act like this guys is the top dog just because he fought, and LOST to calzaghe!

...Great post and I don't see how anyone could be convinced that Kessler would beat Pavlik. Sparring partners are paid to take a beating and caress your balls in the press. And like you said, Kelly was 22 years old.

Interms of boxing skill I agree Kessler may be a lil better. But if they fought I'd go wit Pavlik. I think he's tougher wit more power.
