Where do you get this from?
A couple of times on the commentary of some of Roy's 168 fights. They were talking about his problems finding opponents at 168, because there was no-one good in the division, and lamenting the fact because they felt Roy was clearly great at 168 and they felt it was a shame he might have to leave the weight. McClellan's name was mentioned, but never any of the three Brits.

In retrospect though, I probably should have said 'ignored by some of US commentators' since I don't know what America as a whole did.

That is absolutely, categorically false. Never has anyone said that there was no one else good in the division. Please tell me which fight? Because, if anything, Larry Merchant used to ride Roy Jones pretty hard about the other 168-pounders. And since HBO was the only ones televising Roy's fights...who could you be speaking of?????????

What about the James Toney vs Benn/Eubank scenario that I mentioned in my thread question aswell? Toney called out both men and made Eubank a little upset when he talked about beating him and his mother. Toney looked up for a fight with either of them so why didn't it happen? Anyone know?

Toney lost to Jones and turned into a fat ****.

            End of story.

Ha! I'll never forget Benn practically laughing at Toney for getting his ass beat by Roy - this was right after the Benn fight.

Although, I gotta hand it to Toney - he was ****ing FEARED back then. He once chased a young Bernard Hopkins OUT of a press conference when the young fighter stood up and modestly issued a challenge to JT.

I can't remember which fights, presumably one of his lesser opponents considering the context. Now, I could just be making it up, or I could have dreamed the whole thing, but I don't think so. It's possible that it could have been one of his last fights at 160 too I suppose, and they were maybe talking about what Roy would do in future? I'm pretty sure I recall Lampley being the one talking about it being a shame if he had to move up in pursuit of better opponents, with the implication obviously being that there was noone for him to fight at 168.

Roy Jones had, what, six fights at 168? Maybe seven. I have em all. I don't know if you made it up or deamt it but never, never has anyone said that. Furthermore, Lampley has not said anything like that either. Did you dream that one up too? . Seriously.

The only time they spoke of Jones moving up when he was at 168 was to say he could possibly go to heavyweight...and that was when he fought that bald headed chump he stopped in three.

But never. And if it was at 160 and they said he should move up...that would mean they RECOGNIZED the good fighters at 168, no?

So if Roy doesnt dispute that, it makes it true? Pleeeeease.

I hate hypotheticals. I prefer to deal in facts. I would pick prime Roy Jones over Benn, Eubank, Collins, Watson, McClellan, Dariusz M, Ottke, , probably even Calzaghe.

That doesnt change the fact that he didnt fight a single one of them. And it cant be because they all ducked him

And Roy was a powerhouse? Do you even know who Nigel Benn was? A decent fighter? He was a ****ing beast. I think Jones would probably outbox him and stop him late but Benn would give him nightmares along the way. Jones didnt fight many big punchers - certainly none in Benn's league.

Benn had just blazed through America KOing guys that were supposed to beat him. He was probably the most dangerous fighter in the world. So his claim that Jones backed off a fight with him are also very believable.
Like you said: You dealing in facts, the whole Benn being a beast is just OPINION! Roy fought very stiff competition during that short SMW time.
He ****** compared to the guy you build him up to be. Collins and Eubank were better in the same country and era. And, so? What now? What do you have to say now to contradict yourself this time? I told you who I chose to believe. That is Roy. Seemed more likely in my opinion. Either way, your point means jack crap considering that you even said Benn would have gotten stopped. I know he would have. Jones was unbeatable in his prime. He barely ever got hit and almost never lost rounds after the Hopkins fight. That includes in the Toney fight. (BTW, Toney was light years better than anyone you mentioned at SMW. Period. It is opinion, but probably 90% of boxing fans would agree.)
