How can boxing become more of a house hold sport/

In boxings golden age when i might add there was probably much more influnce by the MOB and the gamblers HW Chamop ment something. Every kid growing up wanted to become Champ. Rocky Marciano was god. Muhammad Ali wasn't only a HW Champ and the Greatest but he was and still is an Icon. Kids everywhere watched fights with their fathers or listened to them on the radio. What happened? How does the sport regain some of that golden era and feeling again?.......Explain why you think it was and can still be that way or why it was and will never be again......Lefty

Mike Tyson to make a comeback and have a war with Evander Holyfeild, win. Fight Haye, win by 6th round TKO then get a shot at Wlad. Billed as the biggest fight since a long time ago, the now reformed Mike wins by 9th round KO and procedes to rip the division apart one man at a time, on free network TV. Then he KOs all the sactioning bodies, so only the WBC exists anymore.

    Yay!

Maybe not Mike Tyson but will the next Tyson in the wings somewhere please stand up.....Too many paper belts and too much politics makes for dull fights and almost any fight worth watching is automatically put on PPV. I agree with that. You pay for HBO you shouldn't have to pay for all the good fights too on PPV. I think the sacrifice they could make by eliminating some of these PPV events and putting some fight on Nation Wide TV and getting some sponsors to fork up some of the purse money would pay dividends in the long run as far as increasing a fan base and getting fellas faces on TV more known by kids and the casual fight fan....Lefty

Unfortunately I feel like today's society is filled with a bunch of ******* who think boxing is too violent and that's why it's not on TV. The sport hasn't changed any, it's the mentality nowadays that has. Plus nobody can follow who's the best anymore with all the belts. Let's not forget great matchups not being made consistently enough to keep interest high.

I'm not disagreeing with anything you are saying there. I bet MMA gets taken off CBS soon though. I know with all the crazy **** that is actually TV it seems ridiculous but boxing and MMA is nothing that is staged or fake. Also, there are plenty of people who don't like all the sex that's on TV today. Regardless, MMA, boxing and the WWE are basically all on cable TV, not network. I'd love to see boxing get back on ABC or the like but with PPV and it directly benefitting fighters and promoters, I'm not sure if either party is willing to take the risk of "possibly" obtaining new fans by putting a huge fight on network TV as opposed to PPV.

Sorry to say this boxing will never be a main stream sport again. Just too much damn money in team sports, people would rather follow a team than an individual. IMO

I know but honestly putting shows like Friday night fights on ABC or CBS and that fight Williams had with Kolle that couldhave brought a chance for Williams to get his name out there by whooping that guy on TV rather then VS. Fights like Pavliks last dance or B Class fights could headline those events lets face it if we arent running out to buy them on PPV why not throw it at the network and see fi they can get it televised?...Lefty

I wouldn't say that they think its to violent since people seem to enjoy UFC and MMA so much. That in a way is more violent since it takes less skill to compete and it is nothing but a street fight with a ref and a few rules. The mentality that has changed in society is that too many people do not respect and like to see boxers use the sweet science of boxing. They would rather just see two people stand and go toe to toe without using any skill. It doesn't help the sport when you have high profile commentators who feel the sameway and voice it.

Less PPV would go a long way to help boxing. We as fans don't help the sport by supporting high priced PPVs that we know are bull**** but since its the only boxing on we buy it. That will never teach the promoters a lesson about not giving us fans bull**** and expecting us to buy it so they can make money. Along with making up and coming fighters fight on network TV channels like NBC, ABC and CBS to build up a name and following before they can even get on Showtime or HBO.

They need to only have one championship belt and the champion of said division can only fight a fighter that is ranked in the top 5 of their division. Bring back same day weigh-ins so fighters will have to fight at weights that are more healthy for them and allows for less weight draining to have advantages on the actual fight night.
