    "Calzaghe Hater's Gold"

abadger said it himself... "Calzaghe hater's gold" can be found in the following video (he said it in his usual sarcastic tone, of course)

Sorry if this is a repost, but in this interview during the workup to the Calzaghe/Hopkins fight, at about the 6:30 mark Calzaghe clearly states he would be disappointed to fight Roy Jones Jr. as his farewell fight after Hopkins,

". . . because Roy Jones was a great fighter but he's not a great fighter any more. He's been knocked out twice in his last something like five fights, so I don't see that being a motivating fight for me either. After this fight the number one fight would be maybe Kelly Pavlik/Jermain Taylor, the winner of them two. They're excellent fighters and they're boxing I think next month, so that's a possibility"

I don't consider myself a Calzaghe hater but I have no problem criticizing him in this instance though when he so clearly cannot keep his story straight. If he came out and said he felt he'd lost a step after the Hopkins fight and didn't feel as though he could be as competitive any more against young, prime fighters, I'd give him credit for being straightforward, just like I give Shane Mosley credit for saying he wasn't sure if at his age he still needed to fight the Antonio Margaritos of the world. But that's nowhere near the story he's using; instead he's trying to build up Jones and tear down Pavlik.

It makes sense that he does that because Jones is his next opponent. Why would he tear down Jones and build up Pavlik when he's fighting Jones?

What is the point anymore he is not going to fight Pavlik. Let the man end his career on a massive pay day

Calzaghe ended his career like a coward, and I'm an unbiased fan. He could have went out like a legend but he rather fight a so called shadow of his former-self roy jones jr. And the idiot even split 50/50 with roy. He probably could have made more money against pavlik since pavlik would have probably taken 30/40...

People who live in reality tend not to overemphasise an instance of Joe changing his mind as being evidence of moral bancruptcy and boxing fraud.

              Haters do though.

Perhaps it's in response to loud nuthuggers who claim that this will be a great legacy sealing win? Hmmm?

Perhaps it is, perhaps it isn't. It probably varies on a case by case basis.
