    VERY strong resume...and often overlooked...

A 5 ft. 7 light hevyweight, he fought James Toney twice, Roy Jones twice, he fought Darius Michaelezski, Eric Harding, Glen Johnson, and Antonio Tarver. Also fought Derrick Harmon, George Jones, Julio Caesar Gonzalez, Rico Hoye, Ray Lathon and Kady King.

Montell Griffin's resume is VERY SOLID

I agree, Montell which ever way his detractors spin it was one of the best 175 lb'ers of the 90s. Like it or not he has wins over Toney and RJJ so if they're both HOF fighters and he officially beat them he cant be too shabby himself. Good post scully

Montell was a seriously undersized light heavy, but he fought EVERYONE and gave solid acounts of himself

Griffin's a better fighter than he gets cred for, but he ain't that good. His victory over RJ don't count for much, especially given what happened after that. I think there was anotha thread about Griffin a lil while ago on here.

Every fight is different, the FACT is that Montell gave a PRIME RJ a very tough fight the first time... pressed him and hit him with more shots than anyone else up to that point...and he beat James Toney twice. Nine years before JT beat Jirov. Give the man credit, come on

Both of Montell's wins over Toney were BS Iceman! It's a case of Toney getting too big for his shoes so they gotta keep him down i.e. tall poppy syndrome! Watched Toney v GriffinII last night and scored the fight 119-109 for Toney giving Griffin only 2nd round.

Judges scored this fight 116-112 twice and how one judge gave it 119-109 to Griffin astounds me???
