Cotto's car accident is also pretty well known, but he mostly damaged his arm.

That's true. Everyone thought his career was over.

Mike Tyson once claimed he broke his back. So what if there was no record of him being treated for it?

What kind of injury was it, Mike?

When he was a Baltimore thug in the mold of Wee-Bay Brice, Hasim Rahman almost died in a car crash. He also almost died in a shooting.

          wow, thanks man.

I wonder if titanium implants will become a thing of the future for all boxers.

I think by breaking his back he was referring to his marriage to Robin Givens

I'm not sure just how serious an injury it was but Jimmy Doyle was said to have suffered a serious head injury against Artie Levine which almost ended his boxing career.

He continued to fight and about a year later died from his injuries in a world title challenge against Ray Robinson.

Lamon Brewster, Sugar Ray Leanard.... both came back detach retina's.

Vazquez came back from having surgery on his nose to fight Rafael Marquez.

This is all great stuff. Thanks guys.

Do you know if a boxer is seriously injured do they get access to a pension? Or is there a pension only if the manager bothered to set one up?

Boxers are independant contractors and only have pensions if someone (or themselves) are looking out for them.
