The man still had a great deal of talent though, it is not debatable.
spot on. seems people judge him soley on the 2nd half of his career. he had a very good jab,,,hand and foot speed and threw good combos off that jab until he started getting up in weight and lost his form

all i see is Mayweather hitting him 4 or 5 times with a right hand over the top in a row but he didnt move, it was like he enjoyed pain. strange.

Gatti was always a sucker for a straight right hand. Mayweather is one of the most accurate punchers in the game, and levels better than Gatti.

But Gatti's boxing skills were pretty good....much better than a number of other world title holders.

              Here's one example.

why discredit a fighter after he's 1) given us so many outstanding fights, and 2) is retired. last night merchant took a shot at mayweather jr. that was totally uncalled for and irrelevant. now this. it makes no sense to me.

"failure." i don't know. i'd say the goals of every boxer are to make money and win a championship. in that respect maybe you are a failure if you don't win one of the 4 belts. but the vast majority of fighters will never win a regional title, let alone a world title in their careers. there countless fighters who were/are very good who have never or will never win a title. i'm not sure that makes them failures.
