I then pointed out that the notion of 'great' opponents is a slightly ridiculous one, since those very 'greats' themselves quite often haven't beaten the 'great' opponents that are supposedly the prerequisite of 'greatness'!
Its really just silliness caused by knowing too little about boxing but buying wholesale into the hype you see on TV, without understanding why that hype exists in the first place.
