    Bantamweight is an underrated division.

It really is. It has plently of good people in it, but it's often overlooked because it gets no coverage even by the hard core fans. It's somewhat like Lynn spears. She's a good looking woman, but compared to her daughters Brittney (younger version) and Jaime Lynn you don't really notice her.

Bantamweight is caught inbtween 115, the second/third best division in boxing, and 122 (another top 5 division).

Still it has some great people and they don't face all bums. Sure the titlists need to try and unify, but they are facing some top contenders and some good competition in the mean time.

    This division has:

-Hozumi Hasegawa: Top guy right now. Has two great wins over Saphrom and then has made a lot of quality defenses with taking tune ups here and there. Fights in japan, but not against Japanese padders and more importantly excellent boxing skills that are made of p4p material. He fights top contenders and international fighters. Fights Alex Valdez next on 10/24.

-Aslemo Moreno: This guy is very good too. Just beat Celios Santos, a man who gave Fernando Montiel and Demtri Kilrov trouble, by a TD in what turned out to be a shut out. Also beat Wladimir Sidorienko for the WBA title. Looking to fight a tune up against the OPBF champ. Maybe Eric Morel.

-Wladimir Sidorenko: Was the former WBA champ. He's pretty good too and was fighting some good opposition during his reign.

-Slience Mabuza: This is probably the most overlooked guy in this division, but he's great. He was outboxing Rafael Marquez in the middle rounds of their second fight. He has some great boxing skills.

-Gerry Penelosa: Everyone knows who this guy is. Going to fight Abner Mares next probably.

-Abner Mares: My favorite prospect in the game right now. He's looked pretty impressive so far. Going to fight Penelosa on 10/18 or 12/6

-Alex Valdez: Not many people have heard of this kid, but he's from the Vasquez camp. I saw him fight live and he impressed me. He also has a win over Celios Santos. I don't know why he isn't rated in the top 10 by the ring, he certainly should be.

-Joseph Agabeko: Lost to Sidorenko, but beat Luis Perez. IBF champ.

-Jorge Arce (?): Talks of him moving up. Hasegawa-Arce had talks awhile ago. Hasegawa would put a beating on him just as bad as Mijares did if not worse, but he's a good addition.

-Vuis Malinga: KOd an older Veeraphol Saphrom in 4 rounds, but he seems to be a pretty good fighter.

-Ricardo Coroba: Just KOd Luis Perez. 34-1.

-Sasha Bakhtin: 20-0 prospect who is one of a lot of people to beat Jesse Maca. Is russian, but lives in Japan.

These are the top contenders right now. It's a pretty good division, but people rarely notice it.

They are in the bigger shadow of the stacked Jr. Featherweights. Most of the creme of the crop that was in the bantamweight has moved up 4 lbs.

        A comment on Moreno:

The fight with Santos was exetremly close and could have gone either way by a point. To have it 70-63 as it was is disgusting.

its annoying to know that some fans dont give the lower weights any attention because of the size difference. a good fighter is a good fighter. a good fight is a good fight.

Oh really? Wow. All judges had it a shutout.

Bumping this because it seems pretty much the top 3 guys from Super Flyweight are moving up making this an even better division.

Mijares fights a tune up on March 14th and then probably Hozumi Hasegawa. That fight will be probably pretty good and Hasegawa is alos damn good. I think Mijares beats him closely, but I don't want either to lose.

On March 28th I think, you have Montiel vs Morel. This sets up probably Abner Mares getting a title shot at the winner, which'll be a crazy good fight.

There are rumors of Darchinyan moving up to 118 also to fight Jospeh Agabeko, which would be also very good. Silence Mabuza is great and an Agabeko all african showdown would be cool.

So you could have like a mini tourney:
              -Mijares vs Hasegawa (WBC unification)
-Moreno vs Sidroneko II (WBA rematch)
              -Montiel vs Morel (WBO belt)
              -Vic/Mabuza vs Agabeko (IBF belt)

              The winners:
              Hasegawa/Mijares vs Moreno/Sidrenko
              Montiel vs Vic/Agabeko/Mabuza

Then making an updsiputed champ for that division. Not only do you have great title holders, you have good contenders too. That division is about to explode.

Montiel hasn't won a fight in class yet and Morel beating Montiel would be his first win worth noting since he came back from the pen.
