why, because he quit while he was still good? If all fighters did that we wouldn't be subjected to pointless matches involving shot old geezers like ODH and RJJ. They're whores and disgraceful. They don't care about boxing. Money could milk his career and fame for all it's worth but he doesn't. He could pick up million dollar paychecks for the next 15 years, even after he's shot. He's not about that though. lay off.Comment

Anyone notice the painfully funny irony in that sentence?why, because he quit while he was still good? If all fighters did that we wouldn't be subjected to pointless matches involving shot old geezers like ODH and RJJ. They're whores and disgraceful. They don't care about boxing. Money could milk his career and fame for all it's worth but he doesn't. He could pick up million dollar paychecks for the next 15 years, even after he's shot. He's not about that though. lay off.

Closest post to my opinion.Easily Roberto Duran. Leonard wasn't doing ****... not even embarrassing him like some people make it out to be.
Duran straight out quit because he sold out. I know here in the states Duran was getting embarrassed but other people i have talked to from Panama, Mexico, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, all agree he sold out and there was no embarrassment going on except when he quit.
I would then follow that up by JCC. Even though he was old as hell .... the man was considered for many years the toughest sob in boxing and was giving DLH a good fight with Oscar's face starting to swell up when he straight up quit.
Cotto at the very bottom,
The guy threw everything including the kitchen sink at Margarito and simply couldn't put a dent on him and got brutalized and lasted as long as he could. No shame or embarrassment there.
Duran quitting must've been the most embarrassing. He had never lost up until that point for YEARS (only against Esteban de Jesus, which he avenged). That fight broke his streak and dealt him his second loss. The reason why it was so disgraceful (and shocking) was it was so out of the blue. It wasn't like Duran was on the verge of getting knocked out either. He was taking potshots and being embarrassed and quit without any prior indication of it. It was like, "Nah, **** this ****. I ain't gonna' be part of this!"
I don't believe the alleged stomach cramps were real.
JCC and DLH must've been bad as well. However, JCC had been in too many wars, had an extensive resumè, and was past his prime. It must've been jaw-dropping to see him quit, but c'mon! He was in with a future hall of famer, big time, gold medal fighter who was in his prime, speed, power...too many things going against him.
Cotto/Margarito...wow. This is ridiculous. People weren't sure if Cotto had quit. To many, it was "officially" the Evangelista who stopped it, even though Cotto admits that he was done. But can you blame him? It wasn't like Duran where it seemed as if the fight could've gone on...Cotto, as the poster said, hit Margarito with lightning uppercuts, hooks and hard straights. How Margarito never got hurt or wobbled is beyond me. For those who haven't seen the fight, watch it again. The BEST PUNCH that Cotto connected throughout the entire fight (I think) was the lunging left hook at the end of round 2, I think that was the only thing that came close to hurting Margarito.
But getting back on the subject, Cotto was done. There was no way he was surviving that round, much less the fight. He somehow evaded several uppercuts in the corner after his first knockdown, but after the clinch, his quick retreat indicated that he was in absolutely no condition to continue. He wasn't taking a breather, he wasn't going to pull off a miracle rally, he was done. Quit? Sure, but take off the connotation of "quitter", because it was apparent that he gave it his all until there was nothing else to give.Comment

I don't really think JCC and Cotto were that disgraceful at all. The Duran quit job was but JCC and Cotto were getting beaten up and there was really no way they could win. Cotto was done and completely exhausted and there was simply nothing he had left. He would probably have got knocked out if he kept going. There was nothing wrong with that at all.
JCC was also simply overmatched y a much younger, hungry and prime fighter who had cut and busted him up bad. There was nothing he had left either. It wasn't a disgrace.
Duran just quit because he was out of shape and getting embarrassed by Leonard's 'clowning' tactics. He couldn't handle the humiliation of it and didn't have enough in him to really fight properly the way he needed to, so he quit. That was disgraceful. He wasn't getting beaten up or anything, he just didn't like being embarrassed. Cotto and JCC were getting beaten up, hurt and didn't have anything left. They stopped fighting because they couldn't win. Neither was a disgraceful 'quit'.Comment
