I think his point of the retirement funds, was if you're an injured boxer. Notice how was saying he was hurting while boxing?
So I assume that would mean if you're a 0-5 boxer who breaks his wrist and you wanna retire - no.
But if you're 0-5 and you get in body trouble, like Oscar Diaz and wanna retire. He should. Though I think if Oscar Diaz had retired, he'd get a lot more and better treatment than the 0-5 guy.Comment

i thought the fund would pay you as much as you put in it . . . a lot of other sports do it, actors and writers have it etc. . . it would be nice to think that the boxers who have given so much to the sport and our entertainment do not have to be destitute once they're to old to fight. or that they can actually retire when they get to old to fight instead of taking unnecessary punishment.Comment

Please believe me when I guarantee you that boxing won't be affected one bit by whoever wins the election. McCain does like boxing, but he'll be buried so deep with more serious issues he'll be lucky if he has time just to watch the fights.Comment

I think retirement benefits are going a bit too far, as some prizefighters are just part timers or didn't really contribute much to the sport. Also, they have short careers and long retirements. They usually get what they are worth. that is why it is called prizefighting!!! However, I do agree with the thing about a union. Most industries have one, and other sports people have bodies such as the PFA.Comment

A union, something EVERY SPORT has, is ******? Come on.Comment

Everything, there cant be just some general union like that because each sport and governing body has a different economy, you cant grant someone in the MLS the same retirement benefits as someone who plays pro lacrosse, there are different fundamentals financially for each sport, with boxing, they get screwed worse than anyone with employment on a contract basis thats practically "at will" with little to no rights to the fighter, a union would be interesting because it would likely mandate certain promoters to include certain clauses for different classes of fighters to garuntee their safety or garuntee a certain amount of money after the fact depending on their success as a fighter, (amount of titles etc) which would set them up for arbitration as their career went on.Comment
