I like Guzman but **** him for this one. I wanted to see this fight. Nate should go after JMM now and not even acknowledge Guzman once he's eligible to make the fight again.

i was gonna watch this fight but this guy guzrun screwed us big time for not giving a good fight. the sissy runner ran away from a fight. he should be heavily penalized. a professional boxer not training and acting professionally.

They said he didn't even come back for a second weigh-in. Nate was slightly over but made weight on the second try. Guzman didn't even try. Wouldn't even fight at a catch weight of 140. Sounds like a ***** move to me. Marquez will not even look Nate's way. Only GBP fighters.

Guzman should be Castillo'd. Sued, suspended, fined and banned from fighting below 140. But he won't have to worry about it if he doesn't fight in the US. He can go fight overseas.

But Nate missed out on his payday and first defense. That has got to hurt.

I understand that it was his fault for ballooning up so big since last he fought.. I know it's been a year but that's no excuse to get so out of shape.
But all this doesn't merit a suspension.. he will get fined and as if it wasn't hard before it's gonna be even harder now to get Joan the big fights.
That's punishment enough.. He did this to himself though, can't blame anyone but him.
But he won't get suspended.. although with this going on.. he's gonna be as good as suspended trying to sign a contract.
the difference was corrales and JLC was fighting on that weight class and was having trouble making weight.guzman was going up in weight and still didnt make it. wtf?

I also read that nate still got paid his purse of $250,000 as he had fullfilled all his obligations.

It's called adding muscle - he added too much. He did weight training for the first time in his career and probably underestimated how difficult it was going to be to shed the weight prior to the fight (as it's much harder to lose weight when you're adding muscle).

Further, I read that Guzman WANTED to fight and the doctors wouldn't let him. Despite being unhealthy, guzman wanted to fight
But the Mississippi State Athletic Commission, under Chairman Jon S. Lewis, produced two doctors who refused to permit the non-tilte bout to continue. And then, quite dramatically, Guzman manager Jose Nunez fell on his own sword.

                      Guzman's Manager Nunez:
“I told Joan, I will not follow you into the ring. It’s not the right thing. It’s the wrong thing to do and I can’t go along with you on this. Your career is still brilliant. Your career will continue. But I must agree with the doctors that you cannot risk your life for one fight. If the doctors say you cannot go, I have to agree with them. We will move on from here.”
