Nate Campbell vs. Joan Guzman is Still in Doubt

-
People are so surprised that he is overweight...but look at the surrounding facts.
He's moving up to lightweight against an aggressive puncher when he himself hasn't has knockout power since 122.
The answer?
Strength training. Muscle requires adequate hydration. He added too much muscle to his frame. Another poster pointed out that against Soto his first weigh-in was 2lbs. over and he re-hydrated to 148lbs.
With that knowledge we understand that even if he added no muscle to his frame, his fighting weight is still 148 pounds -- 13 pounds over the 135lb limit. Most fighters don't even rehydrate 13 pounds, so if Joan added muscle to his frame he obviously will be unable to make 135.
People are saying he didn't train or he under-trained but the problem was he trained too much and added too much muscle. This isn't Joan's fault. This is a problem with his team and the blame lies solely on them. The fighter hires nutritionists and trainers to make a work-out routine for them to follow and the boxer's only responsibility is to follow that routine.
Now, seeing as how Joan is moving up in weight classes so quickly it should be completely understandable that his team didn't have the perfect plan for his first fight at 135.
Let's stop turning this news into hen house gossip and wait until some thing develops.Comment

The goal isn't to come to the fight completely hydrated at 135, its to come to the weigh-in dehydrated at 135 and then re-hydrate to a higher weight so that you carry more power. Yes all of those boxers make weight but they aren't jumping around in weight like Guzman. You can't compare different boxers in this way because every one has a different body type--Guzman's team didn't effectively train him.Comment

As unproffessional as it is for Guzman to miss weight by 3.5 pounds after having never fought above 130, it is entirely ****ed up that the Mississippi State Athletic Commision would offer the altimatum that he take the fight (or be suspended), as he is clearly in a state in which his health may be seriously endangered by fighting-particularly against a fighter of the caliber of Nate Campbell.Comment
