Kessler: "No training camp - no problem!"

Mikkel Kessler tells TVsport that there wont be any training camp in the US in preparation for his oct. 25. titledefense against german Danilo Haussler. His training schedule is not even ready yet.

"There wont be any camp at BIG BEAR mountain as I had when I prepared for Dimitri Sartison, but it wont be a problem as I'm already in great shape" Kessler says.


On the danish website lionheartboxing Kessler's trainer commented on the article. He said: "Calm down. Mikkel is in excellent shape. He just went 6 hard rounds with Evans without problems. Plenty of time to make a schedule for Mikkel."

Perhaps Kessler is underestimating his opponent. I find it odd that he havent even got his trainingschedule ready. The fight is only a little over a month away!

This is exactly the type of thing the best fighters don't do. Mayweather and Calzaghe for example always prepare in full for every fight, and always win. Clearly, Kessler would not be doing this if he was preparing to face Froch or Bute, let alone Pavlik or Taylor, so it clearly speaks of complacency. It is my view that fighters should treat every opponent the same, so as to avoid any nasty surprises.

That said, this fight is regarded as a huge mismatch, and I'm sure Kessler is in acceptable shape, so I expect he will get away with it. The problem is that it is unwise to get into the habit of 'getting away with things' in boxing, as numerous now-defeated boxers can testify.

Haussler shouldn't be a problem still, but he's preparing for the fight of his life according to german reports. At least this could mean a less impressive Kessler than what most would expect, and the chances of an upset has increased significantly IMO.

Indeed, Kessler should keep in mind just what beating him would mean for an opponent like Haussler. It would be a shame if Kessler were to spoil his career with an avoidable upset loss, and at this stage he should be seeking to clearly show his class in every fight too.

kessler is an idiot, maybe hes forgetting that hes fighting a PROFESSIONAL boxer. i hope kessler pulls it out but id like to see him get knocked down at least.

I really hope Kessler doesn't underestimate this guy. A loss right now to an unheard of opponent could potentially ruin his entire career. Having said that, he probably could beat this guy without training at all.

Yes. I simply do not understand why Kessler seemingly cannot get motivated for this fight. Several reason ought to get him on his toes:

1: Prospect of future big-money fights.
2: It's in his opponents backyard.
3: The need to impress to achieve reason 1.

Who knows, maybe Mikkel has been reading boxingscene and all those favourable posts saying he's the ATG have gone to his head?
