If I remember correctly, Jones went into that fight with a bad shoulder.

If I recall correctly..... that fight was on HBO yet it was in Tijuana. And HBO seemed like they couldn't believe leading up the fight that in Tijuana, Erik Morales was the heavy favorite, while in the states Jones was the favorite and they agreed. Merchant said an American went to Tijuana and laid down 100,000 dollars on Jones because of the ridiculously good odds, at least they were to him and the HBO crew. All I have to say... Junior Jones had a hard right hand and some ridiculous boxing ability. Through three rounds, I am seeing Junior Jones outboxing Erik Morales, which is nuts, because Morales is such a great boxer himself!
I find it kind of humorous that they questioned Morales's punching power at the beginning of the fight... especially against someone like Junior Jones, who can't take a punch to save his life.
This fight, more than any other I have seen (other than the fights against the legendary fighters, Barrera and Pacquiao) shows that Morales can take a punch better than just about anyone. Just insane how good some of the Jones right hands looked.
What was the thought on this fight before it happened? I know Jones was coming off a loss, so I figured Morales would probably be a pretty heavy favorite, but... they also said that Jones was very dangerous. Can anyone recall?
I'm glad Morales pulled this victory out. This is one of his really underrated victories IMO, because Jones controlled distance so well and had a right hand that could put you to sleep at any time. Junior Jones is the epitome of the term "dangerous fighter". Morales showed his, heart, grit and will in this fight (as well as a lot of good boxing skill himself), and got a very deserved victory.
Needless to say I guess people in Tijuana knew something others did not lol.Comment

All of that is correct, except that HBO said that Jones was the favorite. They just said that he was a dangerous fighter after the fight. If I recall correctly..... that fight was on HBO yet it was in Tijuana. There were no odds or betting in Tijuana I guess. That was in the things they showed with the fighter before the fight.
Really good fight for one that only lasted 4 round.Comment
