    Watching Morales-Jones right now

All I have to say... Junior Jones had a hard right hand and some ridiculous boxing ability. Through three rounds, I am seeing Junior Jones outboxing Erik Morales, which is nuts, because Morales is such a great boxer himself!

I find it kind of humorous that they questioned Morales's punching power at the beginning of the fight... especially against someone like Junior Jones, who can't take a punch to save his life.

This fight, more than any other I have seen (other than the fights against the legendary fighters, Barrera and Pacquiao) shows that Morales can take a punch better than just about anyone. Just insane how good some of the Jones right hands looked.

What was the thought on this fight before it happened? I know Jones was coming off a loss, so I figured Morales would probably be a pretty heavy favorite, but... they also said that Jones was very dangerous. Can anyone recall?

I'm glad Morales pulled this victory out. This is one of his really underrated victories IMO, because Jones controlled distance so well and had a right hand that could put you to sleep at any time. Junior Jones is the epitome of the term "dangerous fighter". Morales showed his, heart, grit and will in this fight (as well as a lot of good boxing skill himself), and got a very deserved victory.

Oh yeah, LOL at Junior getting up from the first knockdown and yelling "****!".

If I remember correctly, Morales was a relatively untested fighter at that point, there were still many unanswered questions about him because up to that point his biggest win was against a worn Zaragoza, who gave him a tough fight so Junior Jones was supposed to be a step up for him at that point.

Morales timed Jones and caught him good in fourth, I believe it was.

You have an excellent memory. Jones was throwing an uppercut from the outside and Morales just waxed his chin when he was throwing it.

Man, I have to wonder, how good would Junior Jones have been if he had a decent chin on him? He was outboxing John Michael Johnson. No idea about Darryl Pinkney, although with his record, I would assume that was a winnable fight for Jones. He was outboxing Kennedy McKinney, and by and large, he was outboxing Morales, although not exactly blowing him out.

I just find it nuts that he was outboxing both McKinney and Morales, because both guys were known as good, jab-dependent, boxers.

Jones was a good fighter, he had very good power especially in his right hand, which was the punch he starched Barrera with in their first fight, he was also a good boxer, he outboxed Barrera in their second fight.

His failings were his stamina and chin, he couldn't take a great shot and he used to fade as a fight went on but apart from that, he gave pretty much everybody a tough time out.

Terry Norris accomplished much more and I thought he was the better boxer out of the two and was probably a bigger puncher as well with either hand so pound for pound I'm going with Norris although anything can happen if that chin gets hit.

Well, not really... there was pretty much only one thing that happened when either of their chins got hit. KNOCKOUT.

Man, if Norris was a better boxer than Jones, I guess I need to watch more of Terry Norris. That is just mind-blowing to me.

Norris was very, very hard to beat if he had just boxed his way to victory but he got ****y or overconfident when he got the upper hand and he'd normally start standing and trading which made fights harder on himself and also sometimes caused a loss or two.

The second Brown fight or the Drayton fights are good examples of Norris just boxing his way to victory.

Norris was better. He seemed to more outgun Mckinney than outbox him to me. He came on very strong, and gassed out fairly early before he could put him out, and as a result was too tired to get out of the way of the thick right hands. Besides, Mckinney was already gettin old at that point, he seemed to age pretty young.
